192 Rocks Highway South Island, New Zealand, 9822, 643-234-9044-
A very overcast, cloudy day and a temp of 12 deg. Now it was starting to feel like Autumn. We continued south west deeper into the Catlins Country on a very quiet Hwy92. The cloud base was very low and the scalloped clouds looked like an oil painting, as though they had been individually applied by an upward brush stroke, which gave them a surreal look. There were small forests appearing in the area and we turned off onto a side road and headed for 'Parakaunui Falls'. After parking up we walk...
Riverton, New Zealand harryandnorah... how early she gets in the pen!. I'm sure they realised we were strangers as they kept stopping to have a look at us.The automatic milking parlours are amazing - the cows all know what to do and when to reverse out after the cups come off their teats. Then they turn around and make their way back home. It's a hard life being a dairy herd farmer - it wasquite pleasant on a cold autumn afternoon in the light but would be ...
Invercargrill, South Island, New Zealand mirja... of Bluff at literally the end of the road to get a photo next to the yellow signpost indicating London being 18,958km away! This was the sister point to Cape Reigna, which we visited at the northern most tip of the North Island. However, here is not the most southern point on the South Island, we drove a further hour along the coast through the Catlins to Slope Point where we stood just slightly further south, at a latitude of 46deg, which was closer to the south pole ...
Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand mikeandpaula_09... jugs of steaming hot gravy, all followed by an oozing chocolate pudding and squirty cream and apple jaffles - like an apple turnover, waffle. YUM! and you can imagine! after so many nights on the tuna pasta and sausage rice, a roast really was the order of the day! after dropping us off, shannon asked us to stay around for a couple more days, and i know we would have loved to, to keep talking to them about australia, maybe go out on a kangaroo hunt, maybe go out fishing on the ...
Tuatapere, South Island, New Zealand whvanderpostTook it easy to Invercargill, famous for the guy that raced motorbikes at the age of 78. A part of the museum is dedicated to him. The museum is cool and haphazard. We loved it. Didn´t stay too long as we headed to the Catlins for 2 days. Caves, Sea lions, weird whirry things, the best free campsite ever and a lost german. We had fun. We had to really start makig an effort to get to Christchurch so pushed on to Dunedin.
Invercargill, South Island, New Zealand sainty1... enjoyed coming home covered in sheep sh1t. Only have dial-up here so it's painfully slow, but I'll try to upload some photos of the last couple of days. Off to Te Anau tomorrow with even more toys and to do some walking in between rain showers. At least its not particularly cold at the moment.
Invercargill, South Island, New Zealand thestrongfamily... with sheep, but you just cannot see them well as the scale of the scenery is so large that the vast numbers of sheep cannot be seen in the photo. At best they look like a bunch of white maggots on a green hill. So here are some samples of what we have seen in sheep and other varied shots as we traveled the southern scenic route.
Invercargill, South Island, New Zealand mikeandnadine... the dull outline of Stewart Island off the coast. In reality the scene looked a lot nicer than I think I’ve made it out to be.

After getting some lunch and poking around Invercargill for a while I headed north. As I got closer to Queenstown and the road hugged the eastern shore of Lake Wakatipu my jaw dropped. Even though I’d travelled along this way in the coach on the way to Milford Sound it was only ...
