Glaciers again

The hike to Berg Lake in British Columbia's Mt Robson Provincial Park is one of the better known ones in this part of the world, and justly so. The entire length of the hike is scenic and the destination is beautiful.

Our day started early because you have to reserve your campsite in person, and we were worried that we would miss out (only 26 per cent of the sites can be reserved over the phone in advance). There were a few people in the queue at 7 am, and the line ...

... 8221; but in an attempt to disguise his German heritage, changed the spelling. Of course, Wendell’s family is German but it’s from his mother’s side. His father’s folks came from Wales and were originally “Pettypool’s”.

There was a comical demonstration of placer gold mining conducted by two of the actors. Although we had seen a sluice operation before, this one was different because it was ...

A sailing we will go

We have completed our trip down the inside passage. Great scenery, boring ride.

I have some left over pictures from Wrangell NP to start off the pictures. Notice how small the towns are. Haines has a summer population of about 2500. Valdez about 1200.

On the road

... we decided to grab a quick bite at the adjoining pub. After dinner we went for a little walk to check on the truck and to stretch our legs. As we strolled past the pool we decided to go for a quick swim. Steph being the well organized girl that she is, quickly donned her swimsuit and Jason not knowing where his swimsiut was, employed his running shorts to do the job and both enjoyed a relaxing swim in the cool water.

... und der See war spiegelglatt. Herrlich!

The Trip Begins

So this was our first day of travel. Brad picked me up at the Greyhound station in Kamloops, (and I survived my bus ride on the Murder Express) and we had dinner to try and wait out the heat a bit. It was 36 degrees in Kelowna, and when you're wearing leather motorcycle gear, it's a little too hot! By the ...

Fore!!

In the morning went for a run but thanks to the poor instructions from the tourist info (or my own poor lack of direction) only did about 4 miles instead of 5. Drove up to Helmcken Falls in the Prov Park and walked along a trail that took us out at the top of the canyon looking down to the bottom of the falls. With the spray of the falls looked like ...

An unexpectedly good day!

With a 5 hr marathon drive from Jasper to Clearwater to look forward to we were braced for a dull day. In addition the weather started badly and so we feared the top of Mount Robson would be obscured when we stopped there for a break (memories of my last trip to Mount Robson with the same disappointment). When it started chucking it down 1 hr in to the drive I had a sinking feeling of de ja vu as the circumstances were mirroring my last fateful drive to ...

Revelstoke

Known for the heliskiing, Revelstoke is nestled in the expansive Kootney Mountains. While in the area we went to Halcyon Hot Springs, snowboarded at the small local resort Powder Springs, which is planning a huge expansion. Revelstoke is a happening town, friendly people. The aquatic center was a blast!
