... into the carpark. With much forwarding and backing we settled the Saab and decided we would leave it there until we depart.

Our first day we spent on the lake taking the ferry to Ambleside from where we followed a walk that I had downloaded that took us past a Roman Fort, lakeside and following the river before taking us into the village. Tom tried some Cumberland sausage for our pub lunch so having refuelled we returned to ...

We had breakfast in our room (self catering) and headed off at 8.10am. We drove to Bodnant Gardens arriving there just before 9. The car park was empty, then we realised why. The gardens didn't open until 10. It was a beautiful day so we headed down the road to a place we had visited before but couldn't quite remember. What a great first time adventure - a week on the Isle of Man for the TT! We are very excited about meeting up with them ...

... to Windermere, picked up the washing which was being done at the local laundrette (a real bonus), and booked back into The Westboune. A cruise on the lake was next on the agenda, so it was back down the hill to catch the Blue Cruise - 45 minutes around the lake taking in lots of interesting and scenic places. It was such a different perspective to see the area from the water. The ...

... the main street, had the obligatory coffee stop, then headed off to Grasmere, which lived up to its claim of being a very pretty village. We tried in vain to find the start of a recommended walk, but ended up doing our own version. It was still cold, but at least it wasn't raining. Leaving Grasmere we headed back towards Windermere, stopping off at the Holehird Gardens on the way. The gardens were amazing, even though it wasn't sunny. We spent a long time wandering ...
