... Thursday: today we crossed over into Texas shortly after leaving Vinton and drove as far as Rockport TX - stayed the Sandollar resort. We set up and headed out for a bite to eat. ... I was happy to see a beach, though, and waded in up to my calves. I walked down the shore and collected a few cool shells.

We drove along the Gulf Coast and took a ferry to cross over to a town called Cameron. Cameron is also small and depressed, with only two little shops and maybe a restaurant. ... chilling and watching TV. Gabi and I watched a couple of zydeco dance videos on youtube and practiced a bit. Then it was time to start on dinner—the much anticipated jambalaya!

First Day in Lake Charles

... saw live crabs in there, and saw the boiling pots and seasoning in the back of the restaurant where they make crawfish boils, crab boils, etc. Cool!

After that we bought Randy some Duck Dynasty PJ’s, which he adores, enjoyed yummy pralines (pecan candy), and watched the movie, Ray. It was a great movie, and the performance of the actress who played young Ray’s mother made me cry several times.
