There’s a male elk with a huge rack eating in a field near the path. All the hikers are stopping to take pictures. At one point he looks up at us with a near-sighted squint. I hope he doesn’t charge. I start walking away just in case. When I look back, his head is down again and I am disappointed that he didn’t do anything excitingly aggressive.
