Weird German Town

... and I just set off by myself again to the internet café and did my thing as usual with two cappuccino’s this time which was nice but my nerves were hurting later for it. I made reservations for a sushi dinner and made my way back to the huts. I worked out for a bit since its been awhile and barely finished my routine because I was hurting from minimal sleep. The sushi dinner was actually pretty good and a nice closer to the great time we had in Swak.

Funky Town

... We stop for lunch at the Brauhaus and have real authentic German cuisine including pea soup and ham, and bratwurst with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. It sure hits the spot.

Tonight several of us go to Erich’s for local fish and game, Boyd has an Oryx steak (Oryx is part of the antelope family, found in Kenya and even more common in Namibia). Afterwards we all go out for Oktoberfest drinks and salute another great day in Africa.

Heini's Home

... or five they had it to themselves. Meanwhile I had dipped a fat cookie into the bean mixture. It was certainly an interesting combination and I will admit the first meal on this trip I just couldn’t partake in. Fortunately Heini and his cousin joined us and they worked on the paan and other dishes on our table so we didn’t have to worry about untouched food left over.

After dinner Heini introduced a guy who wanted to show us his ...

Great African Trek Week 1

... Me and Rach decided to rough it along with a few others and set up our tents. It was horrible, most of us barely slept and spent most of the night shivering in our sleeping bags. The next morning was also unpleasant as we packed up our tents which had layers of frost on them.

Once we got the feeling back in our fingers and toes we packed up camp and got going. This time we were headed for a place called Sesriem where they have the highest sand dunes in the world. Again ...

Its been a while between drinks .... (sarah)

We are in Capetown now and have been since Friday (7/8/09), but more about that later. First I should fill you in on; Gabon, Congo, DRC and Angola - Yes we have been busy !! Gabon was amazing, and nothing like I thought it would be, the majority of Gabon is Jungle. We had one particularly amazing driving day, we drove up a mountain surrounded either side by dense, damp jungle and mist. There was life sprouting and dripping off everything, the most surprising plant life was the bamboo ...

Day Eight - Swakopmund

... the other girls and a random guy in a very colourful shellsuit (he was single handedly trying to bring back the 80s I think!) and the boys go off in the fast group. We set off around the dunes, and while it's kinda fun, I'm really nervous at the same time and quite tense trying to hang on and control the bike. When we stop again for a photo stop after about 20 minutes, the guide offers me a place on his bike so I take him up on his offer and hang on to the back of ...

First week of the adventure

Ahoy! Looks like we'll have spotty internet access from time to time, so I'm going to try to keep a blog. I have to be kind of quick though... Anyway, I'll start right from the start...I finished my exam schedule with a brutal 3 finals in the last 26 hours, and then raced home to pack in the 2 hours I had before leaving for the airport. Definitely not ideal, but in the end it worked out, and the only thing I forgot to pack was my PADI scuba certification - not a big ...

Sand, Sand, Everywhere!

... tire and Dave ended up assisting with changing the spare. For the second day in a row Dave was covered from head to toe in sand. In the afternoon we wandered around the downtown of Swakopmund and visited the snake park. At the snake park they had about 15 species of poisonous and lethal snakes and Carol and Leah could not leave fast enough. In the evening we had our last dinner at the lighthouse restaurant for our final night in Swakopmund.

The Happy Camper- literally

... long road, a desert and that's pretty much it but it was beautiful and I got some lovely pics on the top. From the views you would think I actually climbed a mountain ;) On the way down it was just Nikki and I and we started singing random songs like "I Touch Myself" because the American, who always had his shirt off, seemed to love himself. In his defense, he does have a great body that he works hard to maintain.....but I digress.... So Nikki and I decided to go our own route ...
