      ... both on the coast and inland and passed some very impressive mansions where the tax exiles live. Comment should also be made on the skill of the bus drivers who have to negotiate impossibly narrow lanes and blind corners in a standard sized bus.

      We were pleased that we'd got out of St Heliers, as the little villages and settlements were far more picturesque and the coastline rugged and littered with wrecks from over the ages.

      After a steamed up bus ride we arrived in Gorey to be rained on and be blown about. We took refuge in a local sea front cafe for numerous coffees and plenty of useful conversation. We walked up to the castle, but didn't go in as it was too windy and wet.

      We arrived in the rain so the visibility from the bus on the ride into St Hellier was not good. We took another bus to the hotel, booked in and left our bags there. The rain had stopped by then so we walked back onto town up interesting winding streets. We found a small place to have some soup, 3 bean and ham - very nice indeed.       ... revamped or rebuilt, every time we go back, in the name of progress. With the exception maybe of August, Vale do Lobo never feels overcrowded. In May for example, there is no need to book to go out for a meal and we, pretty much, had the swimming pool at the Tennis Academy to ourselves during the May half term.
