... tear the tie down rings off the wings, the rain and lightning was torrential, but the fun began with the HAIL! It was marble size hail but sounded like baseballs hitting the airplane.
With daylight, I don't see any damage, so maybe fabric is better than aluminum sometimes;-)
Ive got to do some shopping and clean up the airplane, so I'll probably hang around here for a couple days if I can get a hangar. I'm not doing another wee hours disaster drill.

... wet but thankfully we
were inside as 2 more minutes later it was hailing huge balls of
hail. I was actually worried they would crack the front windscreen.
It lasted about 15 minutes, by then we were on our way, trying to
find somewhere to stop and take shelter.

With the weather clearing we decided to
try free place number three on the list. They have the street corners
of the centre of Rapid City set up with life size ...

“Maybe this is the important national monument. The Rushmore Workers Memorial Scree Slope.”

With that small sedition we scurried back to Elephant, loaded up and headed east across the very aptly named Badlands and on into the American heartland, into the corn fields and into a different America.
