Welcome!

Well the day began early for us as we were scheduled to catch a 9:30am bus from the Santiago Bus Terminal which was not far away. Walter had breakfast for us and had ordered a cab to pick us up at 8:30am. We had just finished breakfast at 8:20 when the cab arrived so we quickly gathered our luggage, thanked Walter and Julio for …

Mendoza - home of wine in Argentina

12th to 15th Feb ... Mendoza I spent my last hours with Lorena and Andrea at Casa Palermitano (my second home) in BA - did some washing (badly needed), burned photos onto CD, freshened up and said my goodbyes. I was catching the bus at 9 pm in Retiro, so Lorena got me a taxi at about 8 pm. Hints and tips on BA Palermo is a very safe place to stay …

Red red wine

... by an olive orchard as they are beginning to branch out into olive oil. The tour was excellent. The Argentinian guide explained in perfect english that he would also be doing the tour in portugese. Smug git! Why not throw in German and Chinese too? Loved hearing about the history of the factory and the cost of barrels etc. One barrel of french oak ( which apparently is mostly eastern european now) costs €1000. Pretty dear. They only use them ...

Argentina - Part 2 (Malbecing in Mendoza)

... behind the scenes looks into the winemaking business with very in depth tours of each estate - not to mention having the opportunity to taste some of the best wines and grand Malbec reserves in the region. We even got to make our own blend at one estate! Not surprising given our love of food, the other highlight of the day was lunch at Club Tapiz. This winery is Mendoza’s only genuine vineyard estancia, with a 19th century lodge, winery and olive house. Here ...

Historical Traveler Reviews B&B Plaza Italia Mendoza

A place you will love (mj from seattle)

    from mjfromseattle

Plaza Italia really is one of the best B and B´s I have stayed in. The owners are terrific, they take great care to make the experience in the B and B very enjoyable. The main rooms really feel like a nice home - there is art work all over the walls, nice furniture, very clean and homey. Breakfast is generous in quantity, with nice pasteries, meat cheese and coffees. While I was visiting I got a bad cold and they were more than willing to help me in whatever way I needed, including getting medicine from the pharmacy! The owners son Javier gave a very special tour of interesting wineries off the beaten path, including a fantastic 5 course meal at a restaurant in the country that was very special. Definitely money well spent. The people who stayed at the b and b were also very warm, friendly and interesting.

    Very warm and gracious host!!

As with the other posts, one word sums up our experience in Mendoza: Javier. My wife and I have traveled many places around the world, but I would have to say that the three days we stayed in Mendoza with Javier and his family never before have we felt so welcome and been treated so well. Everything was above par and we felt at home immediately. From picking us up to the airport to waiting early Sunday morning with us at the bus station to make sure we were safe and on our way, Javier is simply a gracious host and a super person. We will definately stay there again when we get the chance to go back. Make sure to congratulate him and his wife on their newborn daughter Agustina!

P.S: Definately take the wine tour! You will not be disappointed!

To see the human side of Mendoza

    from spaceman_spiff

We like staying in B&B rather than hotels because it gives more opportunities to interact with local people and learn about the area. B&B Plaza Italia gave us that opportunity in Mendoza.

The hosts are open, friendly and helpful. The house and the rooms are very clean and comfortable, and the location is perfect. Javier's wine tour is great because it gives exposure to human scale wineries where interaction is possible, rather than the bigger estates favoured by the big wine-tours.

We highly recommend staying at Plaza Italia and taking Javier's one-day wine tour!

Unfortunately we only had time for a one-night stay at this little gem of a B&B in Downtown Mendoza. We loved the great location, steps from all the restaurants, shopping, ice cream shops and nightlife.

The hotel itself is in a private home, typical of a small B&B. The owners couldn't be more helpful or nicer and made the experience extra special. Our room was comfortable with a king- size bed and a small but spotless and modern bathroom.

    We will definitely be back.

    BEST PART OF OUR TRIP

    from nic&dickB

We are a couple that both work in the hospitality industry, we travel quite a bit in the US and internationally. During our recent vacation in Argentina we spent 3 days in Mendoza at the B&B Plaza Italia. This was the best 3 days of our 15 day trip. When we arrived at the hotel we found it to be quite charming and very clean, and we were welcomed as if we were family visiting. Javier had our entire weekend planned, which is the type of personalized service you that you can't find at 99% of any type of hotels. The highlight of our weekend was the wine tour that was so well thought out and hosted by Javier. Each winery we went to beautifully showcased the variety of wines that are produced in the Mendoza region. Not only are we highly recommending the B&B Plaza Italia, we also believe that Javier's personal wine tour is a MUST!! We too look forward to returning Mendoza and the B&B Plaza Italia. --Nicole and Richard NYC, USA

    Highly recommended

    from EDR31

Plaza Italia was so great that we came back and stayed there twice. The B&B is in an ideal location, easy for wandering around Mendoza on foot. The rooms are comfortable, and the family is helpful and accomodating (and speaks English if you need.) We went on a wine tour with Javier, which was well worth it, and he helped us with other arrangements like bus tickets and finding the local favorite dulce de leche. Couldn't recommend this place more highly, it has everything that a lot of the impersonal places in Mendoza (we stayed in one of those too) don't.

    Loved it All!!

Where do I start? It was all such a great experience in Mendoza. I truly believe that if it hadn't been for Javier and the B&B, it would never had been as special as it was. I loved the rooms, the beds, the bathrooms, the breakfast, and the highly attentive personal wine tour given by Javier. I highly recommend the whole day wine tour. Everything had such a personal touch. We had this amazing lunch where every dish had a wine to pair it with. Now that's the way to taste wine. The tours of the wineries were diverse, educational and unpretentious.

    Wonderful hosts

    from tall_jade

This was my first B&B experience and it was wonderful.

The rooms were v. clean, the beds comfortable, the free breakfast excellent (v. good coffee).

If you're someone interested in wine tours, the one we booked through the B&B was phenomenal. We drank and bought some great wine and learned a lot about wine tasting and wine making process.

The owners were v. hospitable, spoke v. good english and were able to asnwer many questions we had about mendoza and argentina. The also made many suggestions for outings and dinner options in the city.

If ever in Mendoza again will deffinately go back.

The Best B&B I've Stayed At

    from davidjacoby

Plaza Italia Bed & Breakfast was the highlight of my trip to Buenos Aires, and I can't imagine visiting Mendoza without staying there. Javier, our host at the B&B, went above and beyond to make our visit memorable. All the little things such as recommending *great* places to eat, helping with taxis and luggage, and even calling me after our stay to make sure I heard the new airline security regulations about no liquids on flights. The highlight of our stay was the full day wine tour that Javier personally took us on. I highly recommend booking a wine tour with him. Instead of just going to one winery and doing a little tasting and then going to another winery, we got full, private tours of the entire wineries, and each winery we visited was different from the other with regards to the wines they make and their wine-making process. It was like a "greatest hits" tour. And we had lunch at one winery, which was a 5 course meal, each course paired with one of their wines. Simply to die for. I can't say enough nice things about Javier and the B&B :)

Fantastic - Can't wait to go back!
