The last pass we drove over brought us into new ecosystem we commonly associate with the southwest, with juniper and Pinyon pines and cactus and other plants we find common to the southwest. So we have come full circle. No longer in the northern Rockies, but in the southwest USA.

It’s been a Sabbath of sorts for us today, and I think we need it, especially David. I wonder how many kms he has driven in the past ten days?

We worshipped at a Lutheran Church in Pagosa Springs, where we were greeted warmly by an active little congregation and preschool. A few supermarket supplies later, we were on our way up into the Rocky Mountains.

Since we want to spend a number of days in this region taking the train ride through the Royal Gorge etc, we headed straight to Cotopaxi. We travelled through a lovely gorge to get here.
