... the scenery and the music were good. And the theater made it fun and worth it.
On Tuesday we continued with some track work in the morning and then we went to a Deer Sale. Deer farming is quite common in NZ, both for the meat, but also the antlers. ... walk. He introduced us to Washpen Falls. He said this is the best short walk in NZ that he ever went. The fascinating walking track takes visitor through a canyon(formed by an ancient volcano), once used by Maori to trap and kill moa. At the top of the climb, you can see the view across the Canterbury Plains to the sea. Grumpy Possums
... which was apparently packed full of swimmers in the summertime, though today there were no takers... Just us, wrapped up warm having our luch of tea and crumpets.
Whilst fuelling up and talking with locals about the weather we realised that there was a potential snow storm coming over towards the central and eastern parts of the South Island and so we decided to stay in a powered site for the evening.

... beef & broccoli stirfry to curry to lasagna, all very good. the dad/husband/host was pretty obnoxious and kind of a dick, but in the end was a good tour guide (he accompanied us the next day as we toured). after dinner we checked out the local pub and had a few beers while we mingled with locals and other travelers (mostly skiers). the next day we woke up, had breakfast, and loaded the bus headed to the mountain ranges. we took porters pass ...
