27 Old Main Road Underberg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, 033-7012496
... Pass and crossing over into our third country while on our trip, Lesotho. Sani Pass is part of the major mountain range in South Africa and we were climbing up to just over 9000feet! John (Elize's partner), his mate Murray who owns Sani Pass Tours organised for us all to go in his Land Rover up the pass and he was absolutely fantastic! A lovely guy and wow he has a lot of knowledge of the area, it's well worth doing!!

The drive up isn't the most pleasant as ...
Sani Pass, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa mbsteve... the Mexican couple and Gareth to a few American drinking games including Thumper. Then Gareth did the requisite Spindoolie and pointed out the Southern Cross to the Northern Hemisphere dwellers. He then broke out the tequila, Gareth was the king of breaking out snacks and other goodies when we least expected it. Though we did manage to see a few epidsodes, we still didn't finished the season.

The next day we woke up unable to walk. Our bodies ...
Underberg, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa kickthrough... soon after we set out – the terribly maintained road could best be described as a collection of dirt, rocks and boulders with the absence of vegetation, and progress was unsurprisingly slow! The final 8km stretch, between the South African and Lesotho borders, took us about 45 minutes to achieve - apparently the record down was set during the Roof of Africa rally at a hair-raising 8 minutes! The border crossings have to be the most relaxed we’ve ever ...
Sani Pass, Lesotho rachelandmike... views of the Drakensberg mountains and lunch at the highest pub in Africa just across the Lesotho border. Then spent some time with a local Basutho lady Melina in her mud hut and found out all about their lives on the tops of the mountains. We must say a special thank you to our hosts Ian and Sue at Pile Inn for the amazing hospitality they gave while we were there!!!Also thanks to Rudi for the guided tour to Howick Falls and getting us safely on the road to Ballito!
Underberg, South Africa jaxandscott... who reallly didn't know much about it yet. The folks at the lodge were really cool and gave us a picnik lunch which we didn't really eat, but the thought was nice. The Three Trees lodge was a really cool place to stay and the service was excellent, but a little spendy. We had a big day planned but didn't really know how long it would take until it was all said and done. People seem to underestimate distances and driving ...
Sani Pass, Lesotho woolly... of pass prohibits vehicles deemed unsuitable for the journey, the Lesotho border agents at the top generally allow vechiles of all types to attempt the descent. I got up at 6.30, had coffee and played with the cats. Enjoying the scenery, while waiting for the others to get up. Paul, our guide, did an excellent job of guiding us through the day. We left at 9 and got back 5, after visiting Lesotho. 150 ...
Lesotho, Lesotho yfjell... s bike. After a quick decision to take the tar road home (due to the fact that we'd be riding well into the night)we headed through the transkei towards Queenstown. I must say, that i absolutely froze my butt off, and could not feel my hands at all by the time i got to Dordrecht. We stopped off for a good 1/2 hour to warm up, and then continued down to Queenstown. We only arrived at about 10h00 that night, but we ...
Underberg, South Africa bonovasa... the pass. And since it is a pretty thin road, it made the going a bit slow. We bumped into a guy i new from varsity riding his bicycle up the pass! - mad *******! after a fair amount of riding, and a laugh at some of the very scared looking faces making there way down the pass, we reached the top. We stopped there at a bar for a GluWein to warm up and chatted to a guide who was ...
Underberg (Heimville), South Africa bonovasaClick here for all Drakensberg photos A day in the Drakensbergs without any hiking - shock horror. We checked out some gift shops in the morning - what, things were even worse a day shopping! Actually not too much of interest in the shops around here. We also visited a ceramics manufacturers where we saw the type of things you'd expect your posh great aunt Edna to have her ...
Champagne Valley, Drakensbergs, South Africa jonclark2000... I'd been told these animals were all over Table Mountain, but when I was there I'd seen none! All in all though this is a great hike. Highly recommended. Back to the hostel that evening and a quick drive down to Bergville so we had food for cooking that evening.
