On November 11, 2014, we will be leaving Holland, MI and going to Bluefields, Nicaragua to stay for 7 weeks with our friends, RCA missionaries Adrian and Bernardeth Kelly-Bobb. Adrian is a pastor and Bernardeth is a medical doctor. We will be helping in their daily feeding program for 120 children that live in the slums of Bluefields. Today we left our last KOA in LaSalle/Peru, IL and headed East. The truck traffic was again very heavy. This will be a short run of about 90 miles on our way to our first stop at Cabela's. Our timing is not great as we are heading East on I-80 in the rush hour 8:00 to 9:00 am. Now the weather said no rain this morning. We the weathermen in IL are no better than MI as they are batting not better than 50% ...

In a couple of hours we'll be leaving Holland to begin the first leg of our journey. Somehow leaving on September 11 feels appropriate because, as tragic as it was, this day above all others reminds me of the strength and courage of Americans, both now and in those early days of the founding of the original colonies.

We just went to a "conversation and coffee" at Schoolcraft College about the secrets of Michigan birds. It was quite entertaining. There is this dry Michiganer humor that just bubbles up so unexpectedly even about the secret lives of birds. Next week we will travel to Amish country to see some quilts. ...
