In a couple of hours we'll be leaving Holland to begin the first leg of our journey. Somehow leaving on September 11 feels appropriate because, as tragic as it was, this day above all others reminds me of the strength and courage of Americans, both now and in those early days of the founding of the original colonies.

There won't be much to comment on for the first couple of days. We'll be stopping in Columbus, ...

ANOTHER EARLY START TOMORROW - we catch the ferry from Muskegon to Milwaukee tomorrow morning.
More tomorrow. ...

However, the closer it came to leave, the more I realized that I had nothing planned and wasn't ready. As the number of times I considered canceling the trip altogether increased, so did my determination and stubbornness to see it through. So that ...

... try calling Georgie. I can't wait to meet Jim's cats. I can't wait to be with Haley, Keegan, Will, Max and the TBD Wright.

We just went to a "conversation and coffee" at Schoolcraft College about the secrets of Michigan birds. It was quite entertaining. There is this dry Michiganer humor that just bubbles up so unexpectedly even about the secret lives of birds. Next week we will travel to Amish country to see some quilts. ...
