The saving grace was the Apple Pie Bakery, a gourmet cafe housed in the same building where you order your food at the register. After browsing the cookbooks in the book store for about half an hour I was already feeling the need for another meal, nothing a Spiced Squash Puree with Pumpkin Seeds, a Poblano Pepper and Pepper Jack Pretzel, two Macaroons (Fig-Balsamic and Goat Cheese-Honey), and a beer from New York state’s Ommegang Brewery couldn’t ...

We talked for a while and the girls entertained us, then off to bed with them and we broke out the dominos. Rich and Erica had never played before, so it was fun teaching them the game. We left around 11:00 to go back to the campground after a very busy day. No problem falling asleep tonight!

... In the coffee shop a local merchant explained that the last few years had been a bit tough but most were still hanging on. Mind you whilst I waited in the car for Gail to return with the coffees, I witnessed what appeared to be a stocktaking fire just down the street.

From Hudson we take Route 9 which will follow the Hudson River south on its way to New York City.
The mansions along Route 9 are no more prominent than around ...

... needed time to get used to it. We already had our plan in place. We would take the drive in two hour shifts stopping to change so we could get out, stretch and refresh. I was on duty first because a) I’m a much better aggressive driver than Chris when I need to be and b) I can’t navigate so we would have driven in circles trying to get out of Chicago.

It took a bit of stuffing around to get the car but we got it. FINALLY….we’re ...
