... The tree, a balsam fir, utterly surprised me for the lack of needle drop. It sits on a wooden stand and gets no water, yet sheds very few needles, even when wrestling it into the elevator to get rid of it. (The city has collection points, spaced every few blocks.)

A couple of days after Christmas we took a shuttle service to the town of Cesky Krumlov in the Bohemia region of the Czech Republic. I was there last spring with my sister and cousin, but Tim hadn't ...

We bought him a beer and got a good history lesson on the ...

... 2 hours in the rain to look at sites etc. The first site we found was a Crepe business which Yes sold lots of crepes. I had a Blue cheese and bacon and Susan Tuna, cheese and tomato. Of course as we were in the Czech Republic I had a beer and Susan a Ginger lemonade both very nice. We then had a sweet Crepe - Cranberry, Walnut, Pear & Goats Cheese. All up it was a massive NZ$17 - we realised later they had not charged us for the sweet Crepe.

Christmas in your mouth

On the bus to Cesky Krumlov this morning our guide advised us that the ridiculously scary movie, Hostel, was filmed in the area. Now if you haven't seen the movie basically it's about locals who "purchase" backpackers of specific nationalities from a corrupt group who kidnap them for the locals to torture in whatever way they please.

Luckily that was not the film that was played on the bus and instead we watched 'The Illusionist' starring Edward Norton and Jessica ...
