In took a few minutes, part of the time walking in the wrong direction, before we found our hotel, the Pension Nossek. We were buzzed into the lobby of the building where we found a tiny elevator surrounded by a spiral staircase that took us to the reception area on the 4th floor. The Pension has a warm feeling and the traditional furnishings, although a bit faded, are full of old world charm.

The curiously-named 10er Marie was the venue for our final Austrian dinner (its English language website asks with rhetorical boldness: ‘Who does not know the oldest wine tavern of Vienna which is located in Alt-Ottakring and which dates back to 1740?’). A fitting, relaxing end to this chapter of our travels. It was truly Gemutlichkeit.

We went to hunt for an ice cream parlour, apparently famous in this region, though a German ordering risk didn't entirely pay off as we ended up with weird liqueur ice cream cups which did not reflect the best of the region I am sure.

... the famed Lipizzaner stallions do their tricks and during the week the public is allowed inside between 10am and Noon to watch the horses "train". Well if by “train” they mean trot around in a circle for a few minutes then we got what we paid for. We left after a few minutes and headed for a museum.
