... were pretty cool, but you don't want to stay too long when it's quite that cold! The next bar was a cute little wooden set up with a fire, randomly playing eighties and early nineties music! The third was great fun as it played a few more mainstream tracks along with the cheese. I did however get roped into learning a dance from our bar crawl guides whilst standing on a table in front of everyone and then did a stage dive (not much of a stage dive from a table!) into ...
Lakes, Mountains and Luge-ing
... we walked down the the ski resort style lift that took us to the top of the Luge hill. For those not familiar with Luge, it is basically a gravity powered tray on wheels that you must navigate around corners and over dips. We both loved it. It was totally safe but totally fun. I even managed to get 'air' as I shot over one of the humps. Extreme.
We enjoyed a refreshing ice lolly over looking the town before we headed back down the 'Sky-line' to where the oxygen was ...
Bungee Jumping!!!!
... look down. No one told me how I was supposed to shuffle out onto this plank without looking down or falling off. I couldn’t figure it out, but there was no time to stop. If I stopped I would freeze for sure. Shuffle shuffle shuffle don’t look down. Am I there yet? What if I just shuffle off before I am supposed to, and I fall? I had to look down to see where I was going, just don’t look at the river I told myself. Focus on the red ...
Wanaka to Queestown
... at the top to make you think twice. It was fortunate that we were traveling mid morning so the frost had a chance to melt and the grit did its job. Once at the bottom of the next valley we started to see a number of steam engines chugging along the road, luckily they were headed in the opposite direction and we weren't the ones stuck behind them. We took the turning for Arrow Town but soon noticed that there were a lot of cars parked on the side of the road and diversions away ...
My Kiwi Adventure Part II
... again. When I got back to the table they said they missed me so much they took a picture of me and added it to a picture of all of them.
We then proceeded to play the infamous game of I have never. I learned a lot about a few people in the group, but after a while, it was time to move on to the World Bar. It didn’t take long till we were on the dance floor again. There was no place to hide so I was out there dancing with them. It was a ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Pencarrow Queenstown
Much more than you pay for
I would amend an comment above stating that you get what you pay for at Pencarrow; we certainly received much more than we paid for. In a country where hospitality is remarkable everywhere, Bill and Kari are exceptional. Their home is beautiful, crafted with native woods and decor, the grounds and views are lovely, and the breakfasts are generous in taste and quantity. Our kids loved the pool table, we loved the luxurious bathrooms, and we all appreciated the guidance with our activities and dining. We travelled both NZ islands, stayed in lots of great places, but still feel that Pencarrow was our best bargain.
Understated elegance.....we received much more than what we paid for. The best
Truly the most luxurious, elegant, romantic place on the planet! We've traveled all over the world and nothing compares to Pencarrow! Their 7 course breakfasts are still in our memories; views from every room, elegant china, crystal and a different place setting daily.....they covered every detail!
Loved Pencarrow and the Hosts
We stayed at Pencarrow in April '04 for 3 nights. After we found the driveway (have to look close), my wife and I just fell in love with the place and with the hosts, Bill and Kari (ask about their years in Saudi Arabia). The common rooms were warm and friendly and our room had a great view of the lake. Pencarrow is just a few minute drive from downtown Queenstown. Be sure to ask Bill or Kari for recommendations for local restaurants. All recommendations were just fabulous. I have told others planning trips to NZ to be sure to look up Pencarrow. Bill can also recommend local wines.
Pencarrow IS Perfection
If you have only one chance in NZ to completely treat yourself make it the Pencarrow. Housed in a beautiful home with grand suites and an incredible view of the Remarkables, you will be spoiled. Made to order breakfast in a formal setting, nightly gifts on your pillow, a sip of your favorite beverage, billards on a huge English table, star gazing in the hot tub, and privacy when you want it are all part of the charm of the Pencarrow. Your hosts, Bill and Kari have collected treasures from around the world to make you feel at home no matter where you are from. Their contacts with local artists, pilots, and resturant owners will make you feel like you want to live in Queenstown for the rest of your life. Treat yourself...you deserve it!
Artists of Hospitality
Hospitality can be a lost art, but in Queenstown a masterpiece of hospitality is daily created. The artists are Bill and Kari Moers, and their canvas is Pencarrow Bed and Breakfast. From the moment you awake in the morning to breakfasts that rival the best in the world, to the time you go to sleep on one of the luxurious beds, you will experience pampering beyond compare. The attention to detail and constant delightful surprises will leave a smile on your face all day. And did I mention the hosts? You arrive a stranger and leave feeling you have two new friends. My wife and I have stayed all over the world and we have not been anywhere that we loved as much as this place. There are not enough stars to award for our experience. As my wife, Jan, wrote in the guestbook, "Honey, is this heaven?" "No, it's Pencarrow."
Honeymoon bliss....
After backpacking most of Australia and NZ what a fantastic way to start married life! It is luxury beyond your imagination and goes well past expectations. You get all the luxury plus more with two of the most amazing hosts I have ever met. You can't pay for that sort of attention to detail and I would like to thank them both for making our wedding stay the most memorable experience ever. We look forward to our second honeymoon there in a couple of years time. Jon & Sara
Pampered in Pencarrow
We were pampered beyond belief! Everyday was a pleasant surprise from morning to night. The personal attention to every detail assured our stay was the most memorable possible.Queenstown is beautiful and Pencarrow is luxury . Kari and Bill took care of all our arrangement, making the most of our days there. We will always dream of going back again!!!
The best in Queenstown...actually, best I've ever stayed
We stayed there in February 2004 and absolutely loved it. This stop was one of 9 stops we made while touring NZ and Australia. Compared to the other B&Bs in NZ, including one that was 3x the price and is highly regarded internationally as one of the best in the world, we found our stay here to be the most enjoyable. Why? The host, Kari and Bill, were great. They helped plan events/trips, gave excellent and accurate inside information about restaurants, excursions, etc. The place was clean, relaxing; rooms were spacious. The food was incredible. You'll love it and won't regret it.
Better than home
We honeymooned in Queenstown during August 2002. We searched several places to stay, and all were either closed for the winter or full. Owners of another B&B recommended Pencarrow, as they were just opening for the season. We crossed our fingers and hoped for the best, we got SO MUCH MORE.Bill and Kari are awesome. They met us at the airport to ensure we didn't get lost. Every morning Bill's live weather/ski reports ensured the best events to pick for the day. Kari's event planning was impecable. Coctail hour (which always seemed to go longer than an hour, welcomely) was the perfect time for Bill's 'Southern Man' stories over a pint of Speight's.Those breakfasts, whether room service or not, are to die for. (I'll bet you anything that you can stay there for two weeks and never see a duplicate place-setting. Although I don't know where Kari keeps them). In all...... do not miss Pencarrow. We were concerned that it's location 'outside' of town would be inconvenient, but between our rental car and taxi services, the solitude of Pencarrow was most welcome.Do not miss Pencarrow, it is the most intimate, upscale and most-homelike of any B&B I've ever stayed. It's like going to your best friends house and never having to lift a finger!
Pencarrow
Pencarrow, Queentown's newest luxury Bed and Breakfast, far exceeded our expectations! Every detail was attended to perfectly by Bill and Kari. We wanted for nothing. Truly an undiscovered gem! A must for anyone wanting the ultimate in B & B beauty and service!
