not as good as I expected from the very great review on Trip Advisor.
The shower water is cold for over a minute before warming up. There's a constant cat urine stink in the backyard... The room I stayed at was much tinier than a regular hotel. It basically fit a carry-on luggage and a queen bed.
Other than that, the breakfast was nice. The hostess are all friendly.

Historical Traveler Reviews Pearl's Key West
Nice....but no cigar....
I had already booked a stay at Pearl's when I read your reviews. Unfortunately we had poolside rooms so I was very disheartened when I read the review about the noise and the mold smells. There were four of us booked in two rooms. Our poor friend's were the ones to get the room with the mold smell...and yes it did smell. When they got home they had to wash all of their clothes several times to get the smell out. The resort itself was very nice....it's great to be in the company of only women where you can be yourself. The noise level at the pool was definitely an issue though...I just don't understand people....I mean if you want to go swimming after midnight that's fine, just be a little considerate of the other guests. I did check out the other rooms in the old cigar part of the resort and I would definitely recommend those rooms. We weren't very impressed with the maintanence of the pool....by mid-week it was quite dirty and very cloudy...luckily there was another smaller pool on the premises that wasn't used as much so we moved to that pool. The continental breakfast was a little unususal....you were not able to serve yourself and if you tried you were made well aware you had done something wrong. The staff was very helpful when asked question about what to do where to go etc....but, not really very friendly....quite business like. The four of us made the best of it though, and had a wonderful time in Key West....we were very lucky we were able to go since hurricane Dennis had just struck the island the day before our arrival...thankfully there was not much damage done to the island. Would we go back to Pearl's....probably not.....
I and a friend spent five wonderful days at Pearls Rainbow. We were greeted with a smile. The women at the front desk were very helpful on recommendations for local eaterys. They assisted in arranging snorkeling and fishing trips. The pool was fantastic. The breakfast was always tasty. I would go back to this guesthouse again should I go to Key West.
Mold and noise
The mold smell in our poolside room was overwhelming, but the worst part was the noise level. Stay away from poolside rooms if you want to get sleep. The staff leaves at 10:00 p.m. and the noise may begin much after 10:00 p.m. So, if you're asleep at 12:00a.m. and awakened by loud, drunk, yelling women doing cannon balls in the pool, your job is to page the manager so she can come back to the B&B to tell her guests to be quiet. Be sure you know this, because if you complain the manager will ask "why didn't you page me," so keep the number handy. Make sure you really like your room and it's location because if you are very unhappy, you're SOL...... Because it is a small place, they may not have a room for you to move to, or you may only be able to move for a couple of nights. Furthermore, if you decide that the mold and noise is just too much and you feel like you deserve a great vacation....and you decide to go somewhere else, be prepared because you will have to pay for all the days you reserved. Moreover, no one will help you find another place to stay. When asked for other suggestions to stay in Key West the manager may reply "Off the top of my head, I really don't know of any." Pearl's is a great concept and my partner and I planned this vacation for months. We were looking forward to a relaxing, and restful all women experience. It is likely that the Cigar Factory part of the B&B is a much better experience. It is remodeled and away from the pool, jacuzzi, and bar. So, if you are young and like lots of noise stay poolside. If you are older, stay in the cigar factory part, or go somewhere else all together. Pearl's would be a lovely place if the management staff addressed the noise issue by simply having staff on the grounds until at least 12:00a.m. to quiet their own guests down. Expecting guests to page them if there is a problem is just not acceptable. My partner and I would not recommend this place to stay. You can enjoy the all women experience by visiting Pearl's Bar which is open to all women....so just go there for a drink.
Improvements paid off!
This place is amazing, I will stay at Pearl's anytime I get the chance. The staff along with the guests were wonderful. I was made to feel very comfortable there, I was a little timid staying alone but after a few minutes at Pearl's I knew my money was well spent. The pool area is nice, pretty and private. The bar was great...full of good energy and great drinks! The rooms are great, the decor and feel makes you not want to leave. The Cigar House is completly done with the remolding. The cigar suites are beautiful along with everything else in this house. The second part is still being worked on but is looking great! If you get the chance stay here! You will enjoy, even if it's just for a night.
Just spent 5 nights at Pearl's and had a great time. The staff is wonderful. They are extremely helpful and professional. Room prices are average for the area. Pearl's is located on the quieter end of Key West, between Duval and Simonton St. very near the "Southern most point" marker. The weekend dinner, prepared by Chef Toni, is as good as I have had at any fine restaurant worldwide. The rooms were clean and well appointed. Housekeeping services were excellent. Pool and spa area are spacious and very relaxing. I highly recommend the food and drinks prepared at "Pearl's Patio". Pearl's is a great all-women guest house and I will definitely stay there again.
There's no place like Pearl's
there truly is no place like Pearl's. My partner and I are leaving tomorrow for our 3rd visit in 2 years. The rates are reasonable and the ambience is wonderful. It's a private escape to a world of your own. I highly recommend it!
Most comfortable in Keys
Better than I ever imagined. Born and raised in Florida, first trip to Key West. Already making reservation for next month.
Not the best value
Being the only Lesbian Resort in Key West, has not alluded Pearl. She takes full advantage of this fact and charges accordingly. However, to her credit, she has invested in trying to fix up the old resort. There are other resorts in Key West where you can get more value for your money. It's Key West afterall and very gay friendly, you don't have to stay at a women only resort to feel free to be. The staff at the bar is very friendly, but some of the others can be a bit standoffish.
Change for the better
The place has changed A LOT since 2000. New name, new owners, new bar, new paint job, new linens, new toiletries, and continuing improvements to the physical. And the staff is amazing -- so helpful and friendly!
The place looks beautiful and is comfortable. Hard to believe it used to Rainbow House!
An oasis of great proportions!
For gay women, this is the best place to stay in KW! Never expected to have such a great time and feel so comfortable!!! The staff is excellent and move about in a manner where you don't know they are even there! The rates are good and the service is just perfect. I will be heading back again!
