In Nelson hatten wir mal wieder ein extrem cooles Hostel, mit ca. 600 Filmen, riesigen Aufenthaltsraeumen, kostenlosem Internet und einem sehr verplanten Sohn des Hostelbesitzers, mit dem wir uns ein Zimmer bzw. sein Zimmer geteilt haben, da er zu faul war in unserem eigentlichen Dorm ein Bett frei zu raeumen.

... beaches, creeks, swinging bridges, lookout points, and lush rainforest kept us entertained as we walked nearly 20 km to meet the water taxi again. Richelle tried her skills out on a stand up Paddle Board back in town that morning.

Sunnier climes
... I later had some supper and checked emails. Bizarrely at around 8pm there was some live jazz in the garden and I’m sure the German girl who’s in my room but doesn’t seem to sleep there much was playing the violin as accompaniment to the guy on the saxophone. They did some jazzy Christmas numbers too. Loads of backpackers and the owners sitting on the lawn, listening, talking, smoking, drinking, generally enjoying the last rays of sunshine for the day. What a cool couple of days!!!

... Hardy Street and found the river which looked slightly better than yesterday, but not by much. The pedestrian footbridge was open, so I braved it and found the Botanical Reserve. This happens to be the site of the very first rugby match in NZ back in 1870. As you would expect in NZ, the info panel giving all the facts was designed to look like a set of rugby posts… I then sloshed my way across the field to the start of the track leading up the hill to the Center of NZ.
