It was another early morning as we had to be up and into Durango by 7:30 am to catch the steam train to Silverton. This railroad was built in the 1880's to shuttle miners and supplies back and forth between Durango and Silverton when silver (hence the name) was discovered. The train and the trip is spectacular as it winds through the Animas River canyon. Passengers ride in original cars that have been refurbished. Glen and I went on the historical Durango - Silverton train ride today. It was amazing. This train was used in the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, along with many others. ... to walk over to the gas station to see if they have a hand drier in the bathroom where we can warm up. They do! We warm up there for a while, heating different parts of our bodies: mostly hands and butts. We grab some coffee and that warms us up too. We have two more climbs for the day.
