... name on the transom, Reverie (as I recall) and call on both 13 and 16. No answer. The people aboard waved at us excitedly as we passed. Another call had the same result. Weird. They disappear in the distance and we do the same. We're getting radio traffic on both channels so the radio is fine. Maybe we're not transmitting, I think, but we used it a lot the day before with the tug/barge traffic and all was fine. Hmmm ..... The outgoing tide from Beaufort Inlet ...

Maggie drove most of the last leg until just prior to our arrival at Casper's Marina in Swansboro. A short rest with wine and snacks preceded a fine dinner of meatballs, pasta and a buttered roll. The crew is tired and needs a night of rest before proceeding to Oriental tomorrow. A

We found a nice little library in New Bern and did some work in the morning before deciding it was time to get off our butts and start moving. The Croatan National Forest was right nearby and it was a good day to do a little hiking. The hiking is definitely not as challenging as it was in the Appalachians but anything to get moving again is worth it. We found an awesome trail that was actually about 20miles long, so we picked a spot to start and ...

... windy, but not wet. We popped into the Beaufort Grocery Co. Restaurant (mentioned in the Coolest Small Towns article) for a mid-afternoon snack.
