This was our 3rd stay at the Heritage Inn in Snowflake. This time in the Elsie Owen Flake room. Owners have changed but most everything is the same, breakfast is still huge and wonderful! As we explored town we drove by an old hotel that could have potential if we had lots of money. I tried to talk the other 3 into us buying and renovating it---but got outvoted. We then checked out the cement teepees historical site with some old clunkers and a couple nice older cars. Drove around ...
... off we went.
How far did we go before the first light came on? Two miles? Possibly three. However, I decided it was not a vital one, as it was alerting us to the fact that the 'tire' pressures needed adjusting... but as we are quite high up, maybe that has a bearing on it.
The Mesa Verde is a National Park where two cowboys discovered the remains of an ancient village made up of pit and cliff dwellings and shallow caves.
... sports a roll top bath so I take full advantage before heading out to Trapper's Cafe for barbecue beef and, most notably, home made apple pie with ice cream. Oscar gets my leftover strips of beef for waiting patiently in the car.
I wake up ridiculously early so take the dog for a walk around the sleepy cattle town when it's still freezing cold and barely light, even before the school bus starts doing its pick ups. Then I get to sample the Heritage ...
Fri consisted of much beer and campfire singing mainly about hugs! As a result this led to a lazy day where we mainly sat in the sun plaid music then later watched lord of the rings and snoozed. Sunday we were planning to do much the same but got whisked away to a canyon where we climbed the rocks and explored on the hunt for petroglyphs ...
