It was here that the filming of Breaker Morant was done (for those of us who can remember it). It is having a 30th Anniversary of the film debut this month.

The Church then put on a fantastic luncheon, which included a cake made by some of the kids with Bike for Bibles and our individual names on it.

After lunch we worked on our bikes - cleaning the chain etc. Mark had recently brought a toothbrush for 'Milton', and proceeded to clean his chain. ... the hills as fast as we could! There seems to be a bit of competition for 'King of the Mountain', and although Trevor 'Butticus' Hamersley put on his pokka dot jersey for the day, the honours rested with young Nick and I, with Alex and Luke not far behind (notwithstanding Kevin's effort, who we gave almost a kilometre start on the last big hill into Burra). Marcus on his faithful steed 'Milton' gave a credible performance, coming in on most hills after ...

Paul, Fran, and Daniel arrived and we found out that Daniel couldn't ride because of his knees either. Had we lost our first rider. Daniel decided to see a physio in the hope he could continue the ride.

Eventually we left at about 9:45am, way behind schedule, and our old friend the wind was there as ...

Turn right, head north

... this change of plan saw us leave the hotel just before 10am ! We found our way out of Adelaide and headed north into (guess what ?! ) a strong northerly wind ! Strong head winds on a bike can really do your head in, not just from the obvious extra effort and slower pace, but the constant roaring in the ears means you are basically deaf. We can't hear other riders, hear instructions, or anything. However, today we finally all worked really well as a team ...

... and the Snobs were a group of shopkeepers and merchants, both were ving for the same piece of dirt and finally they merged. What drew us to the town were the dugouts that you can still see, where thousands of Cornish, Welsh and English migrants, having come for the mine, lived in the side of the Burra creek bed. While we were in the town we couldn't miss Thorogoods of Burra which make good old fashion scrumpy cider ...

... your friend will be sufficiently happy with the food and ambience that we provide.' ... I've known of very very fine dining places who would put in special suggestions for birthdays and special occasions, so I was definitely not at all pleased. But we went ahead anyway ... We had pre-dinner drinks there, and had a good view of the sunset. Food was good (well accompanied by the wines Wee Leong and I brought) and definitely fine ...

Blowing In The Wind

... Carissa dropped me off at a downtown hostel. As we said our goodbyes, I couldn't help thinking how the vagaries of life take us in odd and unpredictable directions, all the time, often without notice and seldom without meaning. Chance. Luck. Fortune. Coincidence. Providence. Fate. Serendipity. I checked into the hostel, paid for my flight to Korea, and walked the streets of downtown Adelaide, on a brisk autumn day when the leaves were falling and my spirit absolutely soared.
