Historical Traveler Reviews of Oakthwaite House Keswick
Great place to stay
from glenn.t
What a wonderful place to stay if you want to spend some time in Keswick.
The room Karen gave us had recently been decorated all in white and it was immacculate.
I have been known for taking takeaway food back to B&B's before, but I wouldn't dare in this establishment, I would have felt so guilty.
Truth be known I did take one back and I ate it outside on the doorstep.
The following day did not disappoint with Karen showing great hospitality and serving us with an excellent full breakfast before we made our way back home.
Thanks for a truly wonderful stay

Fantastic B&B
from Bellabina
Oakthwaite House is the perfect place to stay if you are visiting the Lake District. It is very comfortable, modern and clean with personal touches (lovely toiletries and chocolate in each room and wide ranging and tasty breakfast menu) that make your stay feel as indulgent as staying in a hotel (without the premium prices) but home from home in terms of comforts.
The owners Karen and David Faria are lovely and were incredibly accomodating and flexible. The breakfasts were fantastic and although I didn't get to taste one myself I'm told by other guests that the cream teas are to die for, especially after a day on the fells!
I thoroughly recommend it - go and enjoy the experience for yourself!
Homely Oakthwaite House

Myself and my boyfirend have just recently returned from a very enjoyable stay at Oakthwaite House In Keswick. The owners Karen and David were very freindly and welcoming hosts, who were always willing to chat and give advice about walks and places to visit within the local area. The B & B is ideally located within a 10 minute walk to Keswick Centre, which was great on a night after a hard days walk for some lovely pub grub and a few beers.
The breakfasts at Oakthwaite along with the cream tea are something not to be missed!! We had the Super King Room which was lovely and very reasonably priced.
We will definately return at some point as we could not of asked for anything more.
Cheers Jo and Paul.
Boutique B&B

If like me, frills and chintz leave you cold, then Oakthwaite House is the perfect B&B location for any visit to the Lake District.
Unlike its competitors, Oakthwaite House mixes both contemporary furnishing with a homely feel, to provide a service that feels personal.
Owners Karen and David Faria went out of their way to cater for myself and my 5 colleagues during filming of BBC2 series 'Wainwright Walks'. Breakfast was served at 6am when required which allowed us to be out on the fells at the crack of dawn.
The breakfast menu caters for all tastes, from the standard Lakeland breakfast to an amazing pile of American scotch pancakes with bacon and maple syrup.
Importantly for all city girls, the rooms come fully equipped with a decent hairdryer, a complimentary toiletry kit, and fluffy white towels (again something which marks them out from the competition).
Crisp white linen, helps to make you feel like the first visitor in the room and the added touch of a chocolate on the pillow can't help but make you think you have landed well and truly on your feet.
I will be spending another 3 weeks at Oakthwaite house in May for filming and don't hesitate to recommend it (I believe the best in Keswick). It is boutique hotel at B&B prices. My only reservation is that if everyone follows my advice, I may not be able to book a room in the scramble!
Lovely stay

We chose this B&B after visiting their website and phoned in the booking.
Our room was recently refurbished and it had a luxurious KS bed. The B&B is easily accessible to the town centre (just 5 min walk) from there we were within easy reach of a variety of walking routes.
The proprietors were very friendly / accomodating and were able to provide us with local information including weather, walking routes and recommendations for local eateries, the breakfast menu was varied and included homemade jams and pancakes. Other personal touches included good toiletries and flowers.
An added bonus was the spectacular autumn colours which seemed to envelop Keswick and the surrounding countryside.
We would recommend this B&B to anyone seeking a relaxing break and good value for money.

If you want somewhere with a bit of a personal touch this is a great place to stay. Karen the owner was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are lovely and modern with some nice finishing touches like toiletries/chocs. She does a great cooked breakfast with loads of mushrooms! Will definitely stay there again.

We stayed at the Oakthwaite House for 2 nights and were well impressed by the place and the hospitality of our hosts, Karen and David Faria.
The booking was easy and directions given to the B&B were simple and easy to follow. Even though we arrived late, our hosts were ever so welcoming. The room that we stayed in was beautiful, clean and much to our taste.
Both my wife and I would definetely stay again here and highly recommend this B&B to my friends and others. Good value for money.

Walkers Winter wonderland -Great place to stay in Keswick !
from Lakeland_walker-7
Just back from a great weekend in Keswick, Lake District. Went for 2 brillant walks using Oakthwaite House as our base. Fantastic weather on Sat and did a 7hr walk from the B&B. Oakthwaite House owners provided us with free flasks of hot drinks and for our walk. Also lent us maps and gave advice on routes.
Excellent base for walking in the fells. Owners dry your boots/ jackets etc. Just a few mins walk into town/ pubs and resturants. Really relaxed atmosphere in B&B, Hearty breakfast in morning kept us going for most of the day.
Recommend this place to anyone who wants a good (modern) B&B in Keswick.
Pleasantly surprised

We found this great B/B with the help of Keswick Tourist Board website and we were not disappointed. Our bedroom was very spacious contaoning a massive superking size bed, TV/DVDs/CDs and nice toiletries. Good relaxing chairs and a footstool made up for the absence of a lounge. Breakfast was first class with a good selection on the menu including tasty local Cumberland sausages. The location was very central , just five minutes walk from Keswick town centre. It was easy to access some great walks and the stunning scenery of the area.
The owners were very friendly and welcoming. theyn were well versed in local knowledge re: places to eat. walking routes etc. Oakthwaite House offers very clean, bright and comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price. We will be back!
Excellent Lakedistrict stay
from Lakelandwalker
We booked at Oakthwaite House having been impressed by the website. Our room was lovely, recently decorated, new furniture, crisp white linen and a very comfortable kingsize bed. Our room was packed with little extra touches it was really lovely to stay in a relaxing, calming cosy room (no frilly curtains!). We had a good breakfast -my husband had a Lakeland full cooked while I had freshly homemade pancakes with bacon and maple - delicious. The hosts Karen and David were very friendly and helpful and made us feel really welcome and relaxed. They have just opened the B&B this summer. They had good local knowledge and we even borrowed a map! Although the parking was on the street we didn't have a problem parking close by. We would definitely recommend this B&B. This was really good value for money and we will be back
