    ... being Sunday the cathedral wasn't open till 12.30 so we went on a river cruise along the canal where we heard a little history and saw some of the old buildings where some of the only remaining parts date back to Saxon times. It was really enjoyable. With the rest of our free time we went in all directions....some shopping, some for lunch and a few of us guessed it....a patchwork shop :) ...

    ... around the empty-ish streets looking in the closed shop windows. Antwerp is the diamond capital of the world so there were plenty of jewellers but most of the ones where we were looked more Ratners than Tiffany's.
    We went and had a look around a chocolatier that was open, went in a bar and had a half of Stella and then stopped at a street corner vendor and bought a waffle. So that was pretty much Belgium done and ...

    ... of our predicament. With no alternative we slowly made our way under the barrier. Bump, smack, "was that a crack?", crash, bump, and we were through, turning back onto the highway we’d just left. At this point, we came to another exit.     ... food. Shopping centres are hidden in the far sides of town for local use only, and the large, wide, fast motorways are made for high speed removal of foreigners from their soil. Very strange. Not very welcoming.

    But at least the weather is holding, and it is encouraging me to travel away as fast as possible.

    ... have made their first 2014 appearance! Really looking forward to spring at home. We have also had a lovely goodbye dinner and mojitos in Puigcerda, Spain with the Pendrys, celebrating our time here and generally eating lovely food like massive steaks again!
