... secluded corner outside, enjoyed the meal that was actually quite good, and then back to our apartment for some much needed photo-work. But the long day takes it’s toll and too early the eyes give up and we head to bed.

As I had made a promise to ourselves as much as to our readers that we would provide the Gibb River blog update before leaving Kununurra, we extended our stay by another day. This was to be our final day ‘in the office’. ...

Not much to report today. After a couple of days of long driving we stopped to recharge (both us and our electrical appliances!). We did wander into town, alongside the ill-named Todd River. On Tuesday 12th we drove the 445 km back to Alice Springs and it was an uneventful trip. Colin and Alison had also told us that Geoff and Tilly Leunig were in Alice Springs while Tilly was getting treatment for a broken arm. We had phoned them the previous evening and found out that they were likely to be leaving on Wednesday after attending the fracture clinic. ... for a pleasant drive. We reached Hermannsberg and drove through to the turn-off to Palm Valley just on the other side of the township. The sign at the start of this road warns of 'extreme 4WD conditions and to allow 3 hours to get to the Cycad Gorge. Fortunately the road was in very good condition and we were able to drive most of it at around 50 to 60 km/h, apart from the rocky sections in huge river bed. ... which is another wonderful institution that started by the Flying Doctors Service using the radios that were in the homesteads for emergency medical support to provide education support to the children of remote farming families. They provide an excellent display and explanation of the work that they do and we also got to watch an art class being conducted from the studio in front of us.
