The most remarkable change in scenery was when we crossed the state line into Louisiana and drove over the swamps on the elevated highway. ... in the late 1700's, 1800's and early 1900's. There were artisans in period dress demonstrating sewing, blacksmithing, and woodworking and a lovely 91-year-old WWII veteran talking about his experiences as a farmer in the area and flirting shamelessly with me.
