Nebraska Hotel Spokane

My friend Diane just reminded me that I hadn't finished the story with the jade earrings. Here is a photo of the finished product. I love them. The jade is actually a very pale green color (all jade starts out white and is affected by other minerals as to the colors). The settings are silver and I am very happy with them indeed.

Here I am trying to pack for yet another trip. Everything out ready to put 1/2 back....then another 1/2 back in a day or so. The good news is that we have really no restrictions on weight (other than the standard 2-bags at 50lbs each) and neither Southwest nor Mexicana is charging for baggage. No way I'll need that baggage limitation but I still worry about having to carry the stuff around!

Finally got the truck back, all fixed and running beautifully. Decided to get on the road, though it was already 2 pm. Headed south along Flathead Lake through green forests and valleys to I-90, then west, west, west. All uphill, what a climb, to Coeur d'Alene in Idaho, then downhill into Washington State. Spent almost two hours trying to find Riverside State Park in the city of Spokane, finally set up the camper and tried to settle down for the night.

... halls full of culinary arts, horticulture, poultry barn, beer garden etc.  We went to the critter corner and there were birds and reptiles including Big Al an alligator reared from birth and available for a photo – Lily and Fynn were first up (Edie not so keen) and sat with Big Al on their laps. 

We did not have too much time at the Fair as we had promised to be with mum and dad at the Armstrong’s (Karen and Jack’s) cabin in Plains for supper so with ...

... of just going around a ring or for a trot around a park is definitely dull.   Thoroughly and utterly recommended. Honest guys forget the beach resorts for one year and try this.

Ps – for those that do not horse ride a tip (from Judith and Jane) was to wear pantyhose (tights)  - this was for the men and ladies of the group.  To aid chaffing.  Suggestion is that you don’t buy the spandex variety and make sure they are Queen Size for men.

Eventually I got annoyed enough that I suggested if they wanted to talk the lounge car was directly behind us and they might be more comfortable back there. I was told that it was their first time on a train and asked if they were keeping me up. When I said yes they said sorry.... and kept right on talking ...

... Gehrke once made numerous decorative windmills from scrap. As he is now deceased, his collection sits in a fenced enclosure in a roadside park near Grand Coulee. The art is surrounded by chain link fence - art too dangerous to be set free? Sadly, more likely to protect the art from destructive critics, yes? More scenery as we drove toward Spokane but kind of late to enjoy a dinner.

Spokane. 2:00 AM. We stumble off the train, meet up with our luggage, find a cab, and fall into a room at the EconoLodge nearby. We sleep. The bed is flat. It's not moving. There is no crying baby nearby. And there is a real live blanket and pillow. More later, when there is time... Peace, yo, Tim and Sally

lots of trees. ran out of gas outside of Spokane. found out how accurate my gas gauge was. did try to get gas but there weren't any visible off the interstate and when i ventured off, the one i found was closed. sassafrassin'... anyway, stopped at the beginning of the off ramp with the 7-11 just around the bend. argh. cop pulls over asking if everything was ok. then says he cannot drive me to the 7-11 less than a quarter mile away. grrrr...
