          Today is a visit up to the world famous Napa Valley and some wine tasting organised by Lauran and Doug, old time friends of Chris. It is just my second visit to Napa Valley, the first done many, many decades ago with Lauran's dad Chet.

          ... I was the youngest there and had to dodge the Zimmer frames. Not far from there we caught our first, close view of the Golden Gate Bridge and it didn't disappoint. Through the haze it's still a beautiful sight. Because of the federal shutdown all parks and visitor attractions were closed but we still managed to park quite close and walk down to the water's edge. Chinese fishermen were hauling up paltry catches of crabs while interested seagulls looked on. Then we drove across it. ...

          ... if there is a strike that will mean that the one car they have will be on the roads with thousands (if not millions) of other people and cars that can't use the BART/buses.

          Fortunately, by the time we got back to the coach, temps had dropped considerable so by about midnight, the A/C's went off. Rest of week, until Friday, it is supposed to hit the high mark records---we'll see. This ex-Kansas boy doesn't handle humidity very good.
