... and I honestly get frustrated at my own abilities to endure such obstacles. That is usually the moment when I have reluctantly learned to hope for help and then simply ask for it. Somehow... somehow... it always seems to present itself in one form or another. For that, I am truly grateful because as hard as I try, I could not do this alone.

... for minor roads wherever possible and practical, and sometimes I think I also do it unconsciously.

I was on a southbound hwy so I figured it would all work out in the end. I had driven out of the
rain and it was quite hot so I stopped at a gas station in the obscure town of Rich Hill for a beverage and a map check. Rich Hill was at a crossroads of two routes called 'A' & 'B'.

The rains pushed us into Marshfield late in the day. We escaped for a brief time at Olanna's cafe in Springfield. We had a second breakfast that carried us down the road. I left Saint Clair and made a beeline for the Meramec Caverns which lie just a few miles off the route at Stanton, Missouri. The caverns were a hideout for Jesse James and in all there are 16 miles of explored caves. The guided tour traverse over a mile of them and takes you past some amazing formations.
