The past few days have been a mix of things. It's interesting how, even though I'm doing the same thing every day, each day is very different. My journey started semi-roughly when most of my gear didn't make it to Atlanta with me. Thankfully, it ended up at the hostel the next morning and I was able to pack it up before catching the shuttle to the start of the trail.

... famed Amicalola Falls - 3rd highest in the USA and the start/end of the Appalachian Trail. And then hiked from the visitor center to the falls and back on two different trials. Maybe 3 miles or 1/1,000th of the famed Trail. Like spending 10 minutes at the Grand Canyon!

... called Mountain Crossing that sells pizza and coffee so I quickly changed my mind. I ended up staying here in the hostel, it's supposed to pour tonight so I couldn't pass up the opportunity for a dry bed. Planning on doing about 11 miles tomorrow, it's supposed to rain and snow tomorrow so we will see if I'm able to make it to Low Gap ...
Moved over to R Ranch in the mountains today. This place is beautiful. It has rolling hills, mountains, lakes, cabins, horseback riding, fishing, nice big RV sites. We have already seen deer and turkeys so mom is lovin it. Her and beth are still barely able to walk from the steps so we will explore a little more in a day or so. Will update later in the week about the campground itself but from initial appearances etc.. Definitely would recommend this ...

Of course, no trip to Dahlonega would be complete without a visit to the Gold Museum formerly the courthouse, where you can dig a little deeper into the town’s history. And afterwards, you might want to eat at one of the establishments in town.
