    Before leaving Brixham which is a large seaside town with so many tourists, we drove to the harbour to see the replica of the Golden Hind which is the boat that Sir Walter Raleigh sailed in. Went through Paignton to Torquay, a more upmarket tourist town and saw the coloured cabanas on the beach which were there when I came there in 1961. Also so many yachts . Drove through Babbacombe on the outskirts of Torquay where there are lovely hotels ...

    ... as we ran out of time last week. Parts of it were the 13th century gatehouse of Beaulieu Abbey, but it’s now mainly of Victorian vintage. It was well worth the return visit - a great house with lots to see and very interesting paintings, photos and momentos of the Montagus over the centuries. The Montagu family still live there (since 1538) so we saw only parts of the house - no bedrooms and only some of the reception rooms. ...

    It wasn't the best of mornings; I only slept a couple of hours last night, and Barbara woke up congested and with a "chesty cough". I ran to the store for some lemons and made her some hot lemon/honey tea and she dosed with cough medicine.     ... now full of scampi we watched a group of pirates do battle with a bunch of clockwork soldier types before driving back to the hotel via a ruined castle called Corfe. Its quite an impressive looking structure even if we turned the wrong way when driving through the small outskirt dwelling town which doubtless serviced the thousand year old Castle at the height of its power.
