... smashed against the rocks) so I just sit in the refreshing coolness and relax for a bit, letting the water carry all my weariness away. I gingerly walk across the river and back--just to see if I can do it... Get out of the water... then back in again... out... back in again... Finally I reluctantly head on my way.
I continue on my way, finally reaching Brunswick at dusk. This looks like an intriguing town--but I'm going to save exploring it for another day.

... room was a big waste of $16! Karen ditched us and stayed in the National Gallery while we went to the Natural History museum.

On Friday night we were fortunate enough to watch NASA launch a moon probe from somewhere in Virginia. The kids really enjoyed it. I wish I would have videoed it because it was much better than I expected. It looked like a massive comet streaking across the sky.

... to see the hometown Nats defeat the Miami Marlins. We had a great time!

Over the Labour Day weekend we visited the National Zoo. It was smoking hot but the animals were pretty active. We were also able to see the three new elephants recently imported from the Calgary Zoo!

... I walked in the direction of Washington DC and saw several of the canal locks. The locks were in very good condition especially for being 300 years old. There was very little water in the canal, and there was a boat from the 17th century on blocks in the canal. Walking along the canal we learned that the Potomac River is extremely violent along this stretch of canal, with huge boulders in the river and it was obvious no boats could travel there. It is amazing ...
