Day 10: Florence
... of Michelangelo, Galileo, Niccolo Medicci and Dante, as well as works by Donatello. On our way there, we walked through a little alleyway where school children were being let out for the day and families were there picking them up (no one was in a car; everyone walked or rode bikes). Day 9: Florence
... rest of the group and all went into Santa Maria Novella, which was unbelievable. A 13-century church built on a 10-century cemetery and site, it housed original paintings on which Michelangelo worked, and stained glass windows, frescos, sculptures and tombs from the 11-16 centuries. Just fascinating. Afterward, we ate dinner on the piazza then headed back to the apartment to relax for the rest of the evening. Another Florentine day ...

Florence and Francesco
... a lot of the scenery along our trip. It was a fun climb up the tower, and I got my dose of exercise and circular staircases. The view from the top was fantastic! Francesco showed us the direction where he lived, a short little ride out toward the hills around the city but still well inside Florence.
