... There was a bakeshop with a canvas sign which had not yet been put up but had been painted and stretched to dry in such a way that the word BAKERY, all but the B, showed through and was reversed. A stranger read it wrong end first, YREKA, and supposed that that was the name of the camp. The campers were satisfied with it and adopted it.

We pass Mt. Shasta and Shasta City and turn east on to SR 89. 89 is a mountainous two lane route to ...

Monday, July 6, 2015. PCT day 78 miles 1189.2-1198 Today is a nero day. I slept in until 06:30 and left camp by 0730. The trail was all downhill, 8.5 miles into Sierra City, which is at 4200 feet elevation. It definitely felt warmer/hotter down here. I arrived here by 11:30ish. The small town is only about a mile from the trail. I set up camp by the local church. I had my cold shower ...

Sunday, July 5, 2015. PCT day 77. Miles 1163-1189.2 Today was a 26.2 mile day. Yes, I walked a marathon today. I even took a long lunch and nap some time mid-day. The nap definitely felt amazing. Spending the night last night in the hut was a treat as well. There were three other PCTers with me at the hut: Wallaby the 60 something year old Australian man, and the couple in their 20's, Dingo and Cosmic Bubbles. Wallaby is a pleasant person. I enjoy his company ...

Tim and Mira headed back on to the trail in the morning after a nice breakfast together of bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, biscuits and gravy. Plus coffee, always coffee. They were really lovely people, I'm hoping I get to catch up with them again in San Fran once they've finished the trail.

I was picked up by the 'ACE' trail crew in the afternoon ('American Conservation Experience') and taken to what would be our base camp for the next 9 days. There were 6 members ...
