    ... of lovely animals and got some great pictures. Got home about 2pm ... We were both exhausted and spent the rest of the day in the apartment. The heat is taking it out of both of us, Caught the red metro train at Farragut North Metro Station and got off at Cleveland Park. Has to walk about .5 kms to the Zoo downhill. When we left we walked downhill again to Woodley Park Metro to catch the train ...

    After all of this waiting, it's just over 2 weeks away. I can't believe it. I find it so interesting that Bali was never on my bucket list but I'm truly looking forward to going. It's a strange feeling, but I almost feel as though I need to go. Perhaps because it's known to be peaceful, reflective, and spiritual and we all could use that in our lives.

    ... South Carolina (with an accent to match!) who had visited Sydney and many other cities and countries. She was most engaging in conversation and we discovered her and her husband had been married for 50 years, the anniversary being only one month ago. Excellent conversations, like the one I had with her whilst we waited for everyone else to arrive, are what I feel make travelling great, and travelling solo worthwhile.

    ... the first American President George Washington. The lower section of the obelisk was under repair but it was still an amazing structure.

    Turning east we walked along in front of numerous museums including the National History Museum, National Gallery of Art, National Air and Space museum, and the most famous the Smithsonian Institution. Would have loved to go in and see some of the museums if we had more time, but will save it for another day. We turned up ...

    ... flashed past very fast and straight into the White House. Washington experience complete!

    By the time we were almost at the Lincoln Memorial we were all exhausted and malnourished and were gratified to spy a cafe just nearby. After grabbing supplies we went to sit outside. Mark's chair had other ideas and completely disintegrated causing an embarrassing spectacle and one ripped RM Williams shirt.
