... anapanapa Bay which was like lying on tarmac. What a word! Wai'anapanapa. That's the great thing about the Polynesian language, they love their syllables. I think the longest place name I saw was 7 syllables long at Honoapi'ilani Highway... it must make a huge dent in the Federal road-sign budget.

Economically it is odd here. Having purchased a 'Maui Gold' pineapple in Vancouver for $1 CAD (which is literally 50p) I was flabbergasted that a road side 'farmer's market' ...

... with her nice new (dry land) outfit on. I'm not sure if that outfit will survive unscathed. Pictures are attached. This post will be loaded with pictures. We then headed back to the hotel, caught some of the fireworks displays being had on our beach and finally turned the kids in. They fell asleep without much complaint. Even with explosives going off outside our room. Carissa is now doing some reading, and a Longboard Island Lager is awaiting consumption by me. Happy 4th of July! ...

... and gave us a great show, and mum joined in a couple of times to give us a real sense of these animals true full-grown size! There were also a couple of randy males following the mother and calf (Hawaii is the birthing and breeding grounds for humpbacks), so we had 3 or 4 whales at a time right up by the boat. And even while we were watching these guys, several more appeared at various times all around us - I just couldn't get my head around how many were out there.
