... handstands and all the rest.... spend hours cleaning the sand out of our bags and clothes! The next day was a stunning 26 degree day.. so so so nice. We never thought we would be at the beach again. Were tempted to stay but found out the next 2 days were not going to be great weather. Sadly we headed off at 4pm to head to Avignon.. Saying goodbye to the med forever was very hard.. and sad....

... br>So now it's evening and we're driving to a small but popular town Cassis. It's on the way to Les Lecques.
Nobody can say why Cassis is so popular, there is no famous monument there or something.. It's just a fun place to go! There is a big Casino there, and plenty of little cafes and restaurants, it's a nice place to take a long walk too.

We took a day trip to Marseilles which is a pretty dirty, ugly city apart from its fabulous port. We didn't feel particularly safe there, and were walking through clutching our bags so people wouldn't pick pocket. ... I figured out, at last, what a Plane tree is. MFK wrote often about these trees and Aix is filled with Sycamores. I think this is what she meant. They are all trained to go two to three stories high before leafing out. The city is full of them (and they are my favorite trees- after Weeping Willows, Birch and of course, my failed attempts at Chestnuts).
