... highways. No such luck. Next stop was Guttenberg which turns out to be quite a little tourist town on the river at a lock. Found a quaint motel in an old list building right on the river. Reasonably priced room, even free wifi.
Had dinner at a nearby cafe also overlooking the river. I tried cat fish and Wes had a smoked Iowa chop. Watched a boat push 12 barges down the river. Barges are tied together.

... amazing adventure from being simple corn farmers 25 years ago to being pushed into the limelight when their farm was used as a significant part in the Field of Dreams movie. Never in their wildest dreams did they imagine their life changes due to this.
All in all, this was a really great day to hang out and watch a ball game in a small part of film ...
Dad decided that a trip to the Field of Dreams should be a late inclusion in to the road trip.
It was a 4 hour drive from Chicago. When we arrived the field (just like in the movie) was there. On the field there were a lot of people playing baseball.
What happened next was awesome. The movie scene where the baseball players came out of the corn field was re-enacted. Some of those involved were in the original movie. ...
... indoor water park. We splashed, slid and soaked for an hour and a half, before getting a much-needed dinner. It was fun to stand on the shores of the river and watch it swirl by, although I don't think its strength and expanse made the impact on Alex it deserved.
It has been a great day by any measure, but made all the more spectacular in light of the day before. The hug that Alex gave me as we walked off the field after playing catch said it all.
