Saturday August 1 - Day 19

Time to leave Illinois. As sad as it is to leave, I won’t miss the chaos of Chicago. Although I still think New York has Chicago beat, Chicago defiantly has Calgary beat. Because Wisconsin is just a few minutes from our campground, we took secondary highways along the bottom of Wisconsin. They have “America’s Dairyland” on their license plates for a reason. ...

... to see. A lot of the stuff in this museum was related to Mark Twain and since we visited Hannibal last week, this was sort of redundant. Bob was less than thrilled to be there, but that could have something to do with the fact that as we were walking to the museum, we had to walk across a high bridge. All of this being monitored by the driver of the machine. Makes your head spin just thinking about it.

Chris and Heidi were such welcoming hosts, they explained everything about their farm, answered any questions we ...

... highways. No such luck. Next stop was Guttenberg which turns out to be quite a little tourist town on the river at a lock. Found a quaint motel in an old list building right on the river. Reasonably priced room, even free wifi.

Had dinner at a nearby cafe also overlooking the river. I tried cat fish and Wes had a smoked Iowa chop. Watched a boat push 12 barges down the river. Barges are tied together.
