It's Cold Here!

... We finally made it out properly and did some exploring today. Our hotel is in an area called Puerto Madero which is a newer neighborhood along the waterfront. It is a pretty area with a lot of restaurants and walkways by the water. At the end of this neighborhood is the Buquebus terminal, which is a port where you can catch ships going across the bay to Uruguay. We stopped in and bought our tickets for tomorrow, so tomorrow's post should be mainly about Uruguay ...

... in case´´ not intending to really wear them until I was up in the Andes, but I´ve been living in them! As a result I have decided to change my plan and instead of headin south to Patagonia now, I´m going to head north and wait for the summer to really kick in before I go south - it´s just too cold!!!

I´ve been staying in a hostel in the San Telmo district, it´s a lovely hostel with great friendly staff, but they´re doing roadworks right outside my room, so the earplugs have been put to ...

Day 25 -May 21: Crazy time at Argentina Futbol

... and we had to walk through the streets a few blocks from the stadium to get around the stadium where we were going.  We were approached frequently by locals asking about tickets or trying to scam us into something, but we ignored everyone.  Despite being able to communicate fine with locals in the area of Buenos Aires where our hotel was, I could not understand the security guards at all nor could they understand me very well.  It added to our concern.

After circling to the ...

A Magnificent Legacy

... He offered to sell the house and all its art and furnishings to the Argentine government for a museum. Fortunately, the government took advantage of this offer, and today this magnificent building is available to all as the National Museum of Decorative Arts. Unfortunately, the museum does not allow photos of the interior. Here is an historic photo at the link below that gives you a since of the grandeur of the building when it was new, as well as my photo of the exterior.

Celebrating 9 years together with England & Tango!

... streets were all closed off for the mourners. It took us about 90 minutes to go 2 miles!! It was like watching Jeff up front on a Friday!! When we finally got to the Tango place - Complejo Tango - we first had a one hour Tango lesson....yes, under the influence of this afternoons alcohol! I was brilliant of course and wowed the onlookers with my nimble and well timed movements. It did take me a short time to release that I didn't have to wear a ...

Peter, Pat, and Mary

... one of the entrances was chained up, and I noticed a tourist couple looked a bit confused, so I offered a hand. We all hopped on the same metro line and chatted for a while. Peter and Mary, a nice Irish couple - maybe we should start our own folk band, and name it Peter, Pat, and Mary! They ended up giving me some suggestions for things to see in Ireland. Sounds cool - I hope I can see it soon! Anyway, it sounds ...

Evita's Peron

... wandering the cobble streets of San Telmo, home of BA's main tango and antiques area. The lower rent apparently attracted many artists and we thoroughly enjoyed the wall art. By chance we saw that the 2009 Dakar was finishing on the first Sunday we were in BA. Ryan was in his element, even though we missed seeing the actual racing, we got to see the awards. It seemed as though we required tickets to enter the stadium where the finale was held, but as we stood at the ...

... were pictured on our 1,000 places calendar for 2008. After lunch we continued to the 9th of July Avenue, the widest Boulevard in the world, over 100 yards wide. We did a little shopping, took photos and walked down Lavella Street (a pedestrian street with restaurants and shops) back to the hotel. We finally decided on a Tango show. I was hoping for something small, but there were only a couple of ...

Slimed! (Steve)

... They'd be gone in seconds. So we're walking along, gritting our teeth, when Ellen goes "is there something on my neck?" Indeed, she has been slimed. A spray of green goop resembling bird poo is on her neck, backpack and sleeve. But it wasn't bird poo at all: it's a trick. The dodgy man sprays it on you, helpfully points it out to you, then suggests you take off your backpack and he'll help you clean it off. Uh-uh. No way ...

Day 7: San Telmo and Lo De Celio Tango

... other. I decided to not go with this beautiful tango dress, I have enough in my closet already. Instead I opted for a beautiful, classy pair of lace pants. We purchased more at various shops. It is so fun to shop for tango clothes. When would you ever shop for things like these otherwise? When navigating in BsAs it takes a bit to get used to the maps. Our maps in the states have North at the top of the map, but here the top of the map is always ...
