A late summer's day
... in the centre of town. We got there in time for the guided tour, don't get much from the guide as they don't usually speak English but it's the only way to get inside the rooms of these places and it just wouldn't be the same if we only saw them from the outside, as impressive as they are. All of the chateaux we have visited so far have been built in very different styles - this one had a huge moat around it, now empty. It ...
A town called Auxerre
... we have followed different coloured lines painted on pavement to capture the important sites, today it was brass markers. We ended up (naturally) at the town's big cathedral. This one, like most of the others is about 900 years old, but had a few different features and one rather unusual addition. All of the cathedrals big or small, have their share of statues. We're planning on going to the village market tomorrow and exploring the village a little bit ...
A day exploring the French countryside
... from a similar era at this museum made it a worthwhile visit. The vase was found buried in the grave of a Celtic princess along with a number of other objects, many in remarkable condition. The burial site has been recreated - will attach a pic below (you can see what she was wearing, jewellery etc from how it is placed in the wagon where she was laid). Off to do something different tomorrow - will try some cycling along a canal in a town called ...
