Buenos Aires - Quintessential Mix of Europe & LaAm

... in the National Army).

Puerto Madero: the newest district in Buenos Aires. Known for its canal system as well as for the brick-layed paths that seem to stretch for a mile or two down the side of the river. Chic shops and good restaurants with a view over the water.

Museo de Bella Arte: the first museum that we went to in the city. Located in Recoleta the museum is dedicated to mostly hosting art from the 19th and 20th century. They also had exhibits up of modern ...

I am IN LOVE with this city!

... Of course I have a section about the food (sorry to all of those who have told me that my entries make you hungry, but there is no way I could not write about the food, agreed?). MEAT. That is what people eat here. All the time. The most popular dish is called a Milanesa which is breaded meat, of almost any kind, pan fried. If you order one of these you better either be with someone else to split it, or be crazy hungry. These portions are HUGE ...

... tone for the rest of my stay in BsAs... There were many other highlights from that point on in Argentina, and the following summarizes a handful of them: ~Of course, I had to partake in one of the infamous, awesome steak dinners (Vladimir and I dined at La Cabrera in Palermo: magnificent, huge, tasty and all for $20 US - w/ about 10 "small sides" and Argentinian wine, too!) ~Grabbing beer/wine at local mercado w/ Steve (and taking back to the ...

BA/MV: Tasting European Colonial Charm, SA Style

... according to the official statistics. The government was able to work out debt-restructuring arrangements with foreign investors and return to the capital markets. In walking around BA, I could see no visible signs of absolute economic collapse less than a decade earlier. Much as I remarked when walking the streets of Bangkok, it is a testament to the people at the ground level - the average laborer, shopkeeper ...

... to think your being ripped off. Buenos Aires is a beutiful looking city but the language barrier is probably bit funny from their perspective as we're using our newly invented version of sign language alot.... We're off now to try buy a cable for the camera, wonder how to get that across to the unfortunate shop keeper! thats all for now, will update again soon.

Country #5 here I come!

... not a result of homesickness when i was chating to a friend from uni from California yesterday arvo on our compulsory excursion to a (very boring) museum. She lowered her voice to me so the others wouldnt hear (and get offended) and asked ´is it just me, or did you expect BA to be more Spanish´and i replied that i didnt know about ´more Spanish´but i expected it to be more WOW, especially as the LP books all call it the Paris of the South! (Then again, LP also told ...

Evita's Peron

... a lovely restaurant - Casa Coupage, where the two owner sommeliers serve only 4 tables on Thursday and Friday evenings with an amazing 4 course meal in "Modern Argentinian Style". They have a very big wine list and we also had an option to do a tasting of a selection of the wines. We tried a very interesting 1997 Melbec from a boutique winery who age their reds in ton-size oak barrels. Satisfied that we've caught-up on the wine experience we were looking for, we went ...

CHAPTER 1: INTRO AND ARGENTINE CUSTOMS ESCAPE

... Wednesday Jan 07th- Sunday Jan 11th Iguazu, Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay What a pair of turncoats! After billing ourselves as adventure travelers, here we are down at the closest travel agent booking ourselves a hermetically sealed package tour with all the uncertainties and impurities removed. Oh well, it's kind of a justified decision as we just want to get the hell out of town. And besides, we face 4 months of living day by day later on. Land at Iguazu airport and the first ...
