From the Kotel to Moshav Mova Modi'in

... bad timing. When the priestly blessing commenced the throng fell silent, except for the sound of cameras clicking, at least in and around us. Near the Wall we could see many, many Cohenim covered completely in their talitot, hands held high, swinging from side to side. Then it was over, the loud murmer returned to the crowd, and we exited into the souk as quickly as we could push through the entrance. As we left, heading into oncoming ...

"Yes it's available, if I can just have a copy of your passports." So naturally we handed over our passports. "OK, I will book the tickets, but you will have to arrange with the captain to get off in Rhodes."
"But we need to find out before we book the tickets if there is any possibility at all of not being able to get off in Rhodes, we don't want a cruise we want ...

This much I know

... We've always had a special relationship. She's like my mom, well, no, not like MY mom, my surrogate mom. One of 3 that I have, but that's a different story...

She gets in, gives everyone a hug and sits on the couch. She starts chatting with Dad, Dad is jealous because it's the first time in over 37 years of marriage that she went on holiday abroad on her own with friends. She's trying to tell him how she bumped into someone they met a little while ago. "You know that lady ...

... Europe…both survivors and those who only had a journal or artifacts survive. I was particularly touched by the story of the Warsaw Ghetto Jews who worked to create and then hide a treasure trove of primary source documents that documented their stories. Also a little alcove with a myriad of tiny drawers each with objects found. Twice I was almost called to sit and listen and view the story of the same rabbi telling his ...

Jerusalem Syndrome

... the covered, winding streets of Old Jerusalem, getting turned around at two Muslim-only checkpoints, waiting in line, and finally passing through a metal detector, it comes as somewhat of a surprise that it is, really, just a wall. For the first fifteen minutes, I sat in the late afternoon sun, watching worshipers on their way to and from the wall, listening to the American family next to me complain, and wondering what, exactly, it was that drew people ...

Day 9: History and Hiking

... Holocaust. And the children's memorial: a completely dark underground corridor echoing with the names and ages of children murdered by the Nazis, lit only by the reflection of candles in mirrors, creating a vast field of stars. From the suicide of the Jews in the morning to the murder of Jews in the afternoon, it was a day heavy with history. We returned the rental car and caught a cab to our little hotel, "The Little House in Baka," an Ottoman-style ...

Basic Army Training: Jerusalem/Breaking Distance

... guns.

That entire day, the commanders had been handing out techniut punishments like crazy for inproperly worn collars, pant legs hanging freely and not in rubber bands, hats worn under a roof, etc. Something was up, because they were not even writing any of these down as normally done. In the evening, our respective commanders announced to us that every single soldier had techniut that night and had to report and stand in a chet before bedtime. With all of us there, one ...

Then - the moment we were all waiting for, the dead sea! Really fun! I was a bit scared strangely. Note to self two things: Don't lick the water, and don't shave your legs within about two days prior - neither are pleasant experiences. I'd take Bondi anyday!

Daniel, Reyka and I went to the markets before tea. Reyka and I bought matching Winnie the Jew t-shirts - so suss!!

WALKING TOUR OF JERUSALEM

... sepulchre.h tm We then go back to where Via Dolorosa station 3 as we noticed a restaurant that has pizza. Inside we meet a Mom and son about 20+ who are from Strathmore, AB. We chat about Jerusalem and the cost of living here compared to Jordan, where they have been and going to. The young man will eventually do the trek to base camp! Mom goes back home the end of this month. Great dinner, back home, to watch the news, no movie channel here, and do the blog.
