... left around 2pm, the same time the cricket World Cup semi final (New Zealand vs South Africa) started and the roads were dead. We arrived at Crossing backpackers a few hours later and met the animals - Sparky (a 26 year old dressage horse), Dea (a 4 month old filly), her mummy (whose name I can't remember), and Daisy (the camp pig and star attraction who you could make sit and feed by hand). We then put the tent up, ate dinner, and watched the spectacular finale of the cricket ...

... interests! Rod definitely! So that kind of completed the sights in Wanganui and it being a lovely day and having had the road between Wanganui and Raetihi flagged up as a good road to drive we decided to take firstly the minor road running along the river up to Raetihi and then back down. ... and to the disappointment of Josh, no sexy nurse to help him in the shower ;) The next morning we learned from the hotel owner (sweats man) that just two months ago this was a retirement home. He had bought it and decided to turn it into a hotel (worst idea ever!) Such a shame we only had one night there... notreallyitwaskindacreepyneverwanttosta ythereeveragain. But hey, it makes for a fun story, and that is what this trip is all about :)

... crossed it and home. It was sunny and hot! Kayaks were out training and all was beautiful and peaceful! Not for long the time we had breakfast, Fred and I went for a stroll and we got on our way, cyclone Lusi decided it was time to show up. So it was very very windy..gusty..and wet...driving was difficult but we made it safe and sound. Stopped half way at Nigel Ogle's Tawhiti ...
