... sadly very disappointing. It has abundance of history here but they seem to struggle to know quite what to do with it unfortunately. We did find the paddle steamer (pic) we had originally hoped we could take a trip on, but found out there is only one a day & this was too early for us. ... was formed in 1989 when the township objected to becoming part of the Manawatu/Wanganui District, wanting to stay as part of the Taranaki District. You can buy passports and have them stamped at the local hostelry and join in the celebrations every couple of years at their Republic Day. We have our passports but unfortunately will miss the festivities as we shall be in the South Island during January.
