The Views Of Rio

A travel blog entry by mattlee18 on Jul 10, 2014

... before you get to Rio you have the impression that the statue is huge and can be seen from all over, which is partly true; you can see it from a lot of the city but it's a lot smaller than I anticipated. Nonetheless it was as impressive and iconic as I expected it to be.

... a nice guy until we got there and he tried to charge us R$150 when his meter clearly said R$43!! After an animated discussion we gave him 50 and told him to go forth and multiply. We have a midday flight to Santiago Chile tomorrow.

... and is generally the centre of Ipanema's carnival events. We were pretty spoiled to be able to have a few drinks and watch from the balcony as the crowd grew and got progressively wilder before we decided to go down and join the party, which was just as insane as you would expect it to be. They call them block parties, which is a bit of a misnomer as they actually cover the whole district with tens of thousands of people filling the streets. There are people selling food ...
