Racing with Myself

... through out the year in the handful of match ups we had I always found myself on the loosing end except the last time we wrestled in which I edged him out to get into the provincial final. We became friends and many years later after I had retired we would occasionally find the athletes we coached matching up, Leo in one corner and I in the other.

I ran my second half marathon today. It was in Seoul and rather cold. I took the subway into the city at 1130am. It took ...

A Letter From an Alien

... slowly and carefully with no attempts of interference aside from our own observations in hopes of understanding the evolution of species. Homo sapiens have become the most dominate species on the planet and since your point of consciousness was reached we have learned much from you. You in turn have much to learn and understand in the future development of your species. We are as unseen as wind. Our form is pure energy with which we float amongst you and ...

Why do in 55 minutes what you can do in 45...

... The time is started on my Ipod and I move along the narrow street down to the river path. I decided today will be fast, very fast. I set the pace with a good stride. Once on the path I become the first white blood cell racing through a vein on the way to a cut with invading bacteria. I push harder and become pure energy racing at faster than light speed. My legs move like I have never moved them before. The only people ...

... reading the reds as greens and the greens as reds. The further climb out of mental fragmentation led by the rational desire to possess a sane mind tells me:

Yeah drivers often run red lights here.

Crisis averted. My brain is OK! Then another incident again seems to make me think I'm loosing it. I place my sticky note pad on a ...

The World's Most Dangerous Day

... nuke tipped missiles to prove their worth

"There's a war going on up there!" might have echoed from the deep
"Take out as many as we can before our eternal sleep"

Words to fire on the tip of his tongue
Of Vasily Arkhipov's sweet voice was sung

To not fire that nuke on the worlds most dangerous day
Leaving Moscow, New York, and humanity safe, miles away...

Quarentined!!

... of classroom style desks. We were told we would not be flying that day and they would update us in three hours.

After three hours, no refreshments, not even for the two year old with us, they herded us to a much smaller room. We asked to speak to someone in authority, but that was refused. We asked to speak to someone at the airline, we were told that could happen after midnight. We then found that the girl who started all this was being held in the next room ...

Day 1

... leggings with cute little jackets for women. I feel a bit out of place walking the streets in my North Face and Danskos :). They do have extremely cute shoes here....that may not be a good thing for a recovering stiletto junkie! Oh the temptation.... I attempted to do a little shopping for some work clothes and it was quickly pointed out to me that I have curves. Yes, yes I do. Apparently Koreans are not used to that and I had more ...

Just another entry.

Ummm.....well I actually found chocolate the other day. I found some ****** chocolate and then I found some good stuff like Toblerone bars and 70% cacao bars and Kit Kats (but in Korea, a Kit Kat is called a Kic Ker....ha!). I am going to make a treat box to brib my students with. Now that they know me and know that I am fun, they will not sit still! Ahhh! Kids are complicated! I am staying warm, but when I am walking around outside my feet ...

Settling in...

... this event...it's definitely a fine line between keeping your employers happy, and not being a complete walkover. Hew was of the same opinion, but I get the impression that Juli finds it hard to say no, and sure enough she embarked on the 4 hour round trip just for a bite to eat! We finally had a night out with most of the other foreign teachers on the Friday night, as I didn't want a divide to form between their floor and our 'elite ...
