journey on into the wilds..

... we travelled to the Coramandel peninsula.. very windy roads but once again amazing coastal scenery Once here we went to the famous Hot Beach. what fun !! You turn up 2 hours either side of low tide when a small amount of beach is exposed on the main beach. You hire a spade and start digging with about 50 other people to find the hotspots where the water bubbles up from the thermal streams below. Once a spot is found you stake your clain and build a little spa pool by digging a ...

North to the South continued....

... you see boiling mud pools and hot spas. At 10.15am everyday the Lady Know geyser erupts which was great to see. Then went hiking around the area&#8230;&#8230;excellent geography field trip location. Then visited Huka falls&#8230;.again great. You probably have figured by now that New Zealand is full of wonderful scenery and unique landscapes. I think nature is calling me!! Arrived in Taupo in the afternoon and pretty much chilled at the hostel. <br> Monday ...

The Road to Wellington

... We arrived quite late and rushed to Mount Victoria, a small hill on the outskirts of the city in order to take some sunset photos very briefly. Wellington is not too dissimilar to San Francisco, with its undulating hills, cable cars and house design. The city is beautiful and boasts the "Beehive" - the modern building used by the government that resembles a beehive... We were able to get pretty much to the doors of ...

Retrospective Entry - Windy Wellington

... grown up. Or maybe we both have. Gone is the propensity of camping, walking (tramping in NZ), outdoors shops, selling what used to be considered essential wear for a kiwi, both on a trail and downtown. Now there are great little fashion boutiques and local designer stores with groovy and funky clothes, masses of charming cafes serving great coffee in a relatively small confined area. So if you are not being blown off your feet by the ferocious winds then ...

Day 10 - Whale Watching

... large pod of Dusky dolphins. And while we saw them the day before, it was still exhilarating to watch them swim along the bow wave of the boat and there were numerous dolphins (of undetermined gender) flipping and somersaulting in front of us. We returned to the marina and while waiting for the bus Jess got an up-close experience with Charlie, the marina mascot. It was then time to hit the road for the ferry back to the ...

Maeve's Beginnings

... all in all I'm having a great time I went to the Te Papa National Museum (yes i am cultural!) and witnessed the unwrapping of a 4.5 metre collossal squid which was pretty disgusting + went to the top of Mt. Victoria from which you can see the whole of Wellington. I'm going to South Island tomorrow on the ferry to go kayaking with possible dolphins so look forward to some more amazing pictures. Love to everyone.X

Taupo - Wellington

Taupo - A short visit with a short stroll around the town and look at the lake. We looked in a cheap cd store and we all chose one to play in the car 3 cd's for $20 about £7. I thought I had made the best choice 80's classics, you can't go wrong but when it played it was a remix, you're juet getting into the song and it changes track. James cd as you might of guessed is a compilation of country tunes and not many hits, one of our favouites is ...

Windy Wellington - 2/2/09 to 6/2/09

... that started the day before and went on all weekend. As planned, we met up with Mary and Paul, our friends who moved from Swindon to Wellington 2.5 years ago. It was great to see them and catch up on how well they are getting on in New Zealand, and very sad when we had to say goodbye before we moved on to Napier!!! During the time we spent with them, we had lots of chat, eating/drinking and a bit of sightseeing!

Nearly out of fuel

... times thought I'd got something but most of the time I'd pull my line in and find that the bait had gone but no fish on the line.. Those fish were deff taking the p out of me for sure.. Frustratingly the Leighton and Lewis were just pulling them in, it was like they were leaping out of the water for them, including the huge one pictured that Layton pulled in. We came back to shore and Karen had been cooking up a feed again, fish head soup. I don ...
