... ließen wir uns am Tresen nieder und verspeisten Nieren, Hackbällchen in Tomatensauce, Chorizzo im Feuertopf und schließlich Brot mit Pate und Ziegenkäse, der am Platz karamelisiert wurde. ... be impassable without crampons. You don't want to have to go back to the top again when you're already an hour into the descent! However, as we climb towards the Salto de Caballo, in the section of the mountainside which never receives any sun, the snow covering is minimal and presents no problem at all.

The return is by the same route, spotting a couple of other walkers (who have appeared from where?) on the way. And there's also a big lizard scuttling away through the gorse. I remember to use the gate this time! Back at the zoo, things have livened up and we get the chance to look at the bears, wolves, ostriches, etc. A hippopotamus half way up a mountain near the Costa del Sol? You'd better believe it!

But it's what comes just before the top that is the most interesting feature here. The cliff above the viewpoint has a big hole in it! Presumably this is the Tajo de La "U" (from which this footpath takes its name) and you can see right through it down to the hillside several hundred metres below.

So it's been an interesting afternoon after a frustrating morning - short walk which is well worth doing!
