Feeling small in the presence of nature...
Is how Karekare makes you fell according to our friend Mitch. And that's really all you need to say about Karekare, a beautifully desolate black sand beach on the west coast of the North Island. Nearby Piha beach was less impressive, but still quite dramatic. We loved Lone Kauri Lodge - a wonderfully tranquil retreat for our last night before heading South and starting campervan life.

Back toward Auckland area, in a little tin can of a house… a bit like the cabins one can rent at Apex ski village back home…only one room really divided over two stories, and an alley containing a tiny kitchen, laundry space, toilet and shower area. Lots of deck space though and it is surrounded by an incredible forest...it is just so beautiful out here...only 40 minutes from Auckland! ...

Piha im strömenden Regen... :)
So, weil heute noch ein Luxus-Tag mit Strom und Internet ist, gibt es hier noch fix einen Eintrag =)
Heute hat es (mal wieder) den ganzen Tag geregnet. Wir sind zunächst in die Stadt gefahren und haben uns Ponchos gekauft (warum habe ich meine geniale Regenhose in Deutschland gelassen???) und sind dann in den Westen aufgebrochen, um uns den Strand Piha anzuschauen. Leider war es ganz wolkig, sodass wir an den sogenannten Aussichtspunkten nicht viel gesehen ...
