... built a whole bunch of barracks inside next to all of the Indian palaces. The barracks are three story Victorian constructions - reminded me of my high school which was built about the same time. There are vast gardens inside the fort and the whole place is teeming with tiny squirrels. Very cute. I was reminded of Veruca Salt "Daddy, I want a squirrel." The gardens and the buildings are in need of some care. They are a bit shabby looking and are not on the same scale ...

... 2) Sights ,Sounds, Smell

- Smog Smog Smog! It was a sunny day……. until we landed at the airport. Welcome to Delhi! Now the most polluted country in the world, overtaking China for air pollution :-D (as of Feb 2012)

- Its +37’C and very humid. Feels like a sauna (people in Ottawa will know how it feels)

- Guys wearing jeans and vests over their tops with trainers….We’re sweating like heck ...

... what we needed after about 24 hours with no sleep!

Our first proper day in Deli was spent doing proper tourist stuff - we visited the Red Fort, India Gate and National Museum.

The fort was beautiful, a tranquil oasis of calm after the frenetic metro/rickshaw ride to get there - Delhi traffic is a white knuckle experience!

After a couple fo relaxing hours at the fort we headed over to India Gate - again braving a rickshaw - where we discovered that due ...

I had a lovely meal last night of a spicy curry (they do not have a range like Madras, Vindaloo, etc.. - it is simply curry, with either chicken, lamb or veg, then you have a choice of sauces - coconut, masala, dry). The guy did ask if I wanted to tone it down spice wise - no its fine, thinking I'm hardcore and like my spicy food. It was lovely and properly hot stuff.
